Making bets

Should all bets be honored no matter what?
a bet is a bet, consider the consequences if you lose before making it
funtravler · 36-40, F
@saragoodtimes Good advice
funtravler · 36-40, F
@saragoodtimes However if you only knew
calicuz · 51-55, M
@funtravler

Tell us, that's what we're here for.

I discovered from a young age that It's not an easy thing to answer. Sometimes people get mutual enjoyment out of betting sometimes not. Sometimes people can even get cruel, take advantage, or be abusive.

Here's what I think: I don't think forcing someone to honor a bet that they are not willing to pay would sit well with me. I would also stand up for others that are feeling pressured to do something they really don't want to do. Same thing with dares. I might tease them over making such a bet in the first place but I'd call off the bet. I would not have the heart to hurt, embarrass make them uncomfortable, or humiliate or cause resentment, stress, grief, etc to someone by making them honor a stupid bet over a stupid game or gamble. It's just not important.

People make.mistakes, and Ill betting can be one of them. In general I'd say it's a good idea to never make a bet that you are not willing to pay. But it's a worse idea to hurt someone because of gambling or because you desire to prove your win by calling in the debt as entertainment by making the other party suffer in some way. It's just not cool, be satisfied by your own win and not in hurting someone else. There are better things to focus on.

People often talk about honoring ones bet. But what about the honor of the person holding the debt over the person's head? They could easily call it off. There is no honor in forcing someone to do something they don't want to do out of cruel amusement and disrespect or to rub in their loss in their face.

Oh gross, I just realized what category this is. I thought the question was about bets in general.
Scribbles · 36-40, F
@ronisme1 yeah.

I'm a bit shocked by how many commenters here are like "you have to do it."
Why?
Only do it if you 100 percent want to. Full stop.

I think some people perceive or use the power dynamic between the winner and loser in a betting situation as a consensual consquence-less abuse situation sometimes. "It's ok for me to treat you this way because I won, or it's ok because you lost" and I'm entitled to it. Fulfilling a bet is not a game. It's real life. And it's not ok to use betting to hurt someone (including nonconsensual sex). It's not an excuse. If you hurt someone, bet or not, it just makes you a bad person. It does not make you a big winner who got what was coming to him...

I don't think there is any legally binding bets that involve sex. You can back out of a bad bet, and learn not to make them again. You can back out if someone tries to treat you like property and uses you as their bet (happened to me once)
I'm saying that for anyone reading this.

I'm saying "No, don't do something you don't want to do". The only people you'll lose reputation with are the kind of people who have little to no empathy, want to use you, and didn't care about you anyway. Good riddance to them anyway.
JollyRoger · 70-79, M
@Scribbles You got it! It's one thing to bet something that is YOURS and which you control..... a spouse is not one of those things....he/she may be married to you, but you do not OWN him/her.
Scribbles · 36-40, F
@JollyRoger yeah.

I just had to make the point here that I don't like people with despicable morals who only care about using others and dehumanizing them. No one should
Glorifying the person who wants to force prostitution on someone (no matter the situation) is super fucked up. So is telling the person that they 'have to pay up". That is really despicable. There is NOTHING good in that. it's just making a bad situation worse.
Lilred2289 · 31-35, F
If at all possible. If you bit off more then you can chew try to renegotiate. Lol
Lilred2289 · 31-35, F
@funtravler all the more! So much big talk with liquid courage in you. 😂
funtravler · 36-40, F
@Lilred2289 You have no idea....LOL
Rocky101 · 51-55, M
@funtravler yes all bets must be
Jimmy2016 · 61-69, M
🤔........What bet did you lose too?........All bets should be honored, but maybe something else could be worked out instead of the original bet?
TexChik · F
Of course ! Why else make them . Sometimes having to pay up can be amazing ! 😉
funtravler · 36-40, F
@TexChik It sure would be an experience....LOL
Montanaman · M
No, not really. Some are just to absurd to justify going through with the bet.

Your body, your choice! No bet should trump that.

And say in a poker game, you put up your expensive car and the other guy does too...That's just stupid and definitely extreme. If i won this bet, I'd mess with the guys head some, but i would not take his keys.
It's a matter of morals, values and integrity.
JollyRoger · 70-79, M
@Montanaman Good values! But... would they be reciprocated? You don't bet like that with friends and friends don't bet with you beyond an acceptable limit.
MasterDvdC · 61-69, M
ABSOLUTELY! No matter what the bet, you lost, pay up. If you bet to get naked if you lost...STRIP and let EVERYONE see you naked. And no covering up. If you bet to have sex with the winner, strip, spred your legs and get ready to put out.
miklyn86 · 36-40, M
@MasterDvdC I agree with every word!!!
-- even if the guy cheats to win the bet!!!
Scribbles · 36-40, F
@MasterDvdC @miklyn86 That's pretty fucked up. 😡

I understand that if someone makes a bet it is honorable to stand by your word.

But what about the honor of the person holding the bet over another person's head? I think it's a despicable way to behave to force someone to honor a bet they don't want to do, and pressure them to pay up and have sex, etc.

If someone willingly made the bet they are probably willing to pay it and there would be no problems, right?

If they were pressured or coerced into making the bet, or someone made the bet for them, it would be honorable to forgive the debt...and not humiliate them or force them to do so

There is also no legal recourse to force someone to what amounts to prostitution to pay a debt. And why would you want to in the first place? Go get someone naked who WANTS to do so.

You may not like that someone does not honor a bet they made. And I get that. But you can only be responsible for your actions not theirs. Why you would want to choose to be a jerk, I have no idea. Are you proud of yourself after? Does it sit well with you?
helenS · 36-40, F
Thou shalt honor thy debts.
funtravler · 36-40, F
@Rocky101 Right
Rocky101 · 51-55, M
@funtravler @funtravler I’m me I got one for you I can’t say on here
funtravler · 36-40, F
@helenS if you like message me, if you really want to know that is
If you are willing to make the bet, then you should be willing to pay up - since that's what you expect the other person to do ;-)
Amylynne · 26-30, F
is there a sexy part of your bet?
Rocky101 · 51-55, M
@Amylynne oh yes
onewithshoes · 22-25, F
The world is full of uneaten hats.
Golfer · 61-69, M

Wait a second, I just noticed what category this is in!!!
OggggO · 36-40, M
@calicuz I didn't even check. Now I feel gross for having responded at all.
Amylynne · 26-30, F
no matter what, especially if it is something you wanna do
OggggO · 36-40, M
Definitely not. Instances where either party cheated should either be judged in favor of the other party or nullified, as appropriate. And instances where outside forces significantly interfere with the event being bet on should also be consider grounds for nullification.
funtravler · 36-40, F
@OggggO you sound like a lawyer
wunderluv · 51-55, M
I suppose it depends on what is at stake
calicuz · 51-55, M
Yes, I ,highly recommend paying your bookie
ronisme1 · 61-69, M
Who do you have to do?
Good question, @ronisme1. ;-)
Ducky · 31-35, F
Definitely! A deal's a deal.
JesseInTX · 51-55, M
Pretzel · 61-69, M
depends on the stakes

sometimes something is said in the heat of the moment -

a good sport would let the person off the hook under the right circumstances.
The key is...... dont make bets you cant afford to lose, this goes with money and other things as well.
funtravler · 36-40, F
@SheCallsMeCrushDaddy That's great advice, wish I had it last week
Is it a bet you willingly made (even if you thought it was a sure thing...) or something you got 'backed' into by someone else?
Houdini · 56-60, M
I believe so but I have made a bet with someone and now I’ve got into something that I can’t get out of
Freeranger · M
There are fun people, and then, there are literalists.....I know whom I prefer to be around.
pdockal · 56-60, M
Why make a bet if your NOT going to honor the terms
@pdockal, I suppose the question is -- did @ronisme1 make the bet, or did her hubby/bf/SO make it and she was the object of the bet? 🤔
pdockal · 56-60, M
@VeronicaJane ahhhhhhh gotchya
MasterDvdC · 61-69, M
If you made bet you pay up. The more embarrassing the better.
Houdini · 56-60, M
Well I think so yes. Even though it’s gotten me into something I can’t get out of
Nasty · 31-35, M
Yes no matter what it is
Funtravler what was the bet you lost
Rocky101 · 51-55, M
Have you ever made a bet you we’re sorry about after you lost?
If you can't afford to lose don't gamble
ProfessorPlum77 · 70-79, MVIP
[c=800000]It depends on the circumstances.
What is at stake? [/c]
Rocky101 · 51-55, M
Hi have you lost any more bets
Rocky101 · 51-55, M
Have you lost any bets lately
Krysclear · 31-35, F
Without a doubt
Nasty · 31-35, M

Nasty · 31-35, M

bhatjc · 46-50, M
Talking sex bets?
Houdini · 56-60, M
Yes and it’s good
miklyn86 · 36-40, M
Definitely!!
ViciDraco · 36-40, M
This would be a fun question to ask under different topics to see if their answers change. Like, how many Gung ho respect all bets would it be if you changed wife with other men to something like 'donating a kidney' or make it really controversial like 'getting an abortion'. Bet answers would change quite wildly if the intonation was not sexual.
