Neo-liberals went from "my body my choice," and when that idiom failed, they reduced the unborn baby to "fetal matter."

Another moot argument made by the neo-liberals and baby hating feminists is that victims of rape should be allowed to terminate their pregnancy, Rape accounts for less than 1% of abortion cases, and the abortion laws that are being proposed, and the one currently in place in Texas allows for abortion up to 6 weeks - that's plenty of time for a rape victim to decide if she wants to abort the baby. No, women are not going to die because the law does make an exception for women in those circumstances where their life is in danger.

It's not "your body, your choice." There's also the life of a baby involved. It makes no difference if the baby will be poor. Poor babies have just as much right to life as the affluent. Babies born with physical handicaps have just as much right to life as those who are physically healthy. In India & China, selective abortions have killed millions of female babies - substantially reducing the population of girls, but you don't hear any outcry from the feminists about that.

Most women don’t even know they’re pregnant by six weeks; besides with all the new laws restricting abortions, when you call to set up an appointment you’re lucky if it only takes six weeks for them to see you. And that’s assuming that you made the call right after you got done having sex, and it’s also assuming that they’re ready to perform the abortion at the initial appointment, which is not a given. On top of all that, some states have laws that make the providers give you propaganda and false information to try to dissuade you from getting an abortion and/or a required waiting period, which would obviously delay the procedure even further.

Women are going to die because even in the states that do make exceptions when the mother’s life is in danger (which is not all of them), well this might sound redundant, but you have to wait until the mother’s life is in danger. So if the pregnancy is non-viable but the mother’s life is not presently in danger but the doctor knows that the mother’s life will be in danger if the pregnancy continues, legally they still have to wait until the mother’s life is in danger before they can proceed with the abortion. Statistically if you always wait until the mother’s life is in danger to perform an abortion, you’re not going to save 100% of those women. Not even close. Countries that put more restrictions on abortions always experience rises in mortality in childbirth.

The simplest solution is to leave the decision between the woman and her doctor. Why is it ever okay to try to force a woman to remain pregnant when she doesn’t want to be? This is not about saving lives. What about when someone is deathly ill and needs an organ donation to save his life? I don’t see any right wingers demanding laws to try to force healthy people to donate their organs to save those patients’ lives, that doesn’t even seem to be controversial. Even if someone dies as a result it’s okay if you want to keep your kidney because it’s your kidney, your choice even though the life of a living patient is involved.

So why do the rules change when it’s a uterus instead of a kidney? Because what the abortion issue is really about is female sexuality. Is it okay for women to have sex on their own terms? Or must they be dependent on men? Do women get to make their own health decisions about their bodies? Or must men dominate? Those are the questions that are really dividing us.

Your argument falls down when you make men responsible for abortion laws. There are just as many women, and maybe more who are pro life. @Theyitis

@Spoiledbrat Not all women experience morning sickness or late periods, and some experience milder morning sickness and a period that’s only slightly late. Pregnancies happen lots of different ways and plenty of women don’t find out by six weeks. On top of that, with all the new laws restricting abortion, the clinics that haven’t had to close down yet are getting overwhelmed, so it’s getting harder and harder to schedule an abortion early in one’s pregnancy.

The way I see it, it doesn’t matter how late you can reasonably expect a woman to find out or how long it may take to schedule an abortion, because maybe abortion is unethical in some situations, especially later in pregnancy, but I believe it’s always cruel to try to force a woman to remain pregnant when she doesn’t want to be. It’s not right to commit a wrong to try to prevent someone from committing another wrong.

Can you name a sane person who waits “up to point of birth’ to terminate?
Carry a baby to full term, only to abort’
Only reason such a thing exists, is because baby part sales.
Sick/evil/twisted

I don’t want to even know such a person..

@TheOneyouwerewarnedabout What if the woman wanted to have the baby but then something went wrong and the fetus suddenly became non-viable? Sure it’s rare, but it can happen. That’s why the laws are written that way, so the woman and the doctor have all safe options at their disposal in case something goes wrong.
@Theyitis what if…
You’re insane
It's too late then. @TheOneyouwerewarnedabout

Well if it’s a separate life you can remove it from my body, and the two of you can go off and do your own thing. If it’s not my body it doesn’t need my oxygenated blood, food nutrients and bodily protection. I’m sure you and the fetus will have a lovely day out at a political rally together.

@HeidiA an unborn baby has its own body. Its own little toes and fingers. Even a little uterus if female. You'll know it isn't your body when you're pregnant with a child that you love

When people say women are going to die, they are talking about them dying because they will now have to get unsafe abortions and complications can arise, resulting in their death.

It is, their body and their choice.

You don’t hear an outcry about it because it is a moronic argument.
Imsleepy · 31-35
Subjugating people to idiotic theocratically influenced laws is ignorant and immoral. A person choosing to get an abortion is not immoral. The person carrying the fetus has rights, not the unborn. Apparently, you don’t get it.

It’s okay to abort whatever the person carrying it wants. If government is making that decision, it isn’t a choice. Apparently, you don’t get it. @RocktheHouse

@Imsleepy 100% of the people supporting abortion have already been born

I’m not getting into the abortion argument, but I do want to point out about your “6-weeks is enough time to decide for a rape victim.” Women are at least 6-weeks pregnant before they know they are pregnant. Unless I’m still living in the dark ages, and technology has changed, (which is possible I suppose), a woman wouldn’t know.

fetal matter is kinda funny.
A baby can't even feel pain at 3 months or just under. It's not developed enough so it would be a fetus.

@hippyjoe1955 nobody said anything about a right to kill anyone. We are a talking about a right to deny personal bodily resources to provide for the survival of another.

I'm sorry you are not able to grasp the separation of "not supporting" and "killing" when it comes to a fetus. Whether you are not smart enough or are purposefully not trying to understand I cannot say. Maybe some of both. You seem to understand it pretty well when it comes to healthcare though. Funny that.
hippyjoe1955 · 61-69, M
@ViciDraco That is exactly what you are saying and for you to deny it simply adds to the fact that your mental pablum is not well thought out at all.
