Maybe he won an award or they only want to check in with you. hope for the best expect the worst plan to survive
Poppies · 61-69, F
I don't see how it can be bad.
Maybe they found out about him giving lunches away and wanted to be sure you knew about it.
I'm terribly curious.
If it were me I don't think I'd tell him or ask him about the meeting ahead of time. If he knew about it, he'd volunteer the information without being asked. I think you should find out what the school has to say before saying anything to him.

@dancingtongue it was the school annual eye and hearing screening he "failed". His words not the school.
dancingtongue · 80-89, M
@Cigarguy OK. Even less worries. My mother wanted to get my eyes checked at a very early age because she thought I had vision problems. But we were dirt poor, and no one else in the family thought it was a concern. It wasn't until I flunked an eye exam in the first grade that she won out. I had 20-400 vision. Wore bifocals as a kid. Big turning point in my life. The moon no longer had spikes. No more standing there clueless when my brother or father tried to play catch with me until the ball suddenly was about to hit me, and throwing up my hands to protect myself.

@dancingtongue yeah I always figured that both my kids will need glasses eventually because like I said I have them and their mom had bad eyes as well. I'm very glad that it wasn't something worse my mind was going a little crazy thinking about the possibilities.. he has ADHD but at this time we are choosing not to use medication to treat his condition. We're using therapy and other coping methods and that seems to be working well. I had a fear that the school was going to tell me they wanted him on meds or something. Don't get me wrong I am not against meds I take them myself but I feel like if he can manage the condition without the medication and is doing well and is happy and feels good there's no need to put them on any meds..

I would be worried too(I overthink), but sometimes talking in person can make things easier to understand and be more comfortable. They could’ve at least gave you an idea though.
HoeBag · 46-50, F
@MellyMel22 The school system blows everything out of proportion.
I mean even when it is normal stuff for small children to do, the school acts like it is a threat to our very existence.
Coloring outside the lines, cutting in line, not taking their turn at recess, not eating their lunch at school cause it is gr0ss, cracking NORAD missile launch codes...

@HoeBag My youngest son’s school is afraid of me ever since from a young age I fought like hell for my oldest who they were targeting. Now they’re very careful. They know what happens when they test my patience 🤣
HoeBag · 46-50, F
@MellyMel22 Oh yeah, schools love to test parent's patience.
smiler2012 · 61-69
@Cigarguy can understand your alarm and yes bt what you say you could be overthinking this. does your son not know the reason then for this meeting
Cigarguy · M
@smiler2012 ill check with him tonight. I just checked his school portal again and there is nothing that stands out.
smiler2012 · 61-69
@Cigarguy nothing to worry about sound like you can attend this meeting relaxed with no hidden agendas
Cigarguy · M
@smiler2012 I hope you are right, but when it comes to my kids I tend to overthink and stress
HoeBag · 46-50, F
Dealing with the school system is a pain in the 4ss.
He is seven years old, I doubt any test is "Very important".
If he were like 18 and trying to get into some prestigious college, then yeah a test might be "Very important" but not a test for a little kid who is learning the very basics like his A B C's
It seems he failed a very important test but he can't remember what one.

@Cigarguy The school system LOVES to over exaggerate cr4p. Oh believe me.
They didn't give much context cause they are playing the game of "Let's build suspense and drama".
My son is 28, he had a hard time in school, so of course the admins wanted to have all these meetings, sometimes with whatever "God of the school system" just to pour over the SAME cr4p that they always did.
The meeting would be the us parents, the principal, vice principal, teacher, school psychologist, some intern, the lunch lady, even the custodian who cleaned the restrooms.
And they used the word "cognitive" a lot.
My son and I still joke about all that stuff to this very day.
Dad, just don't let any of that stuff bother you. Just agree with them best you can and try to avoid their drama traps.
What will the school say your son failed at? Probably coloring outside the lines or he couldn't do 30 pushups in gym. Likely it is nothing.

What if it is something awesome? Like them wanting to put him into an accelerated program? It's probably not that...but what I'm saying is...don't stress.
HootyTheNightOwl · 41-45
Calm down, if it were that serious, they'd have had you in right away... the fact they scheduled the meeting is obviously not a sign that they are expelling him. If he has special needs, it could be to do with his needs plan.
Cigarguy · M
@HootyTheNightOwl he just had his planning meeting when a week after school started and everything went well during the meeting. I am just stressing because it's what I do.
YoMomma ·
Hope everything is ok
Younameit · F
Not sure what his age is, but did you try asking him if he knows anything about it?
Jenny1234 · 56-60, F
Do not overthink!!! in fact, don’t even worry about it one bit
Infamous607 · 51-55, M
It's just school man.
HoeBag · 46-50, F
@Infamous607 You remember how schools act. Like everything is life and de4th.
Remember each year for those standardized tests, the teachers and admins would act all nervous, telling us to get plenty of sleep, eat a good breakfast the day of, how this is the most important test we would ever take? Like it would affect the rest of our natural lives?
I used to think, "I thought the same test LAST year was the most important ever?"
I imagined myself being 21 and trying to get a job but being rejected because I didn't do well enough on some test back in 3rd grade. 😄
