I never saw my dad box in person, just on his old fighting tapes. Even though he was still an active boxer after I was born, I never actually witnessed any of his fights before he retired.
As for my mom, I've never seen her cry. On the verge of tears a few times, but I don't think I've ever actually seen the waterworks out of her.

I never saw them argue. I never saw my mom dressed down. She was always wearing heels and dressed like she was going out on the town even when she wasn't. You know how most ppl sit around in shorts or sweats this woman would have on slacks, blouses and heels. She never wore shorts and because of it I don't either

I never saw my mother swimming or roller skating. Pop could do both, and I learned how from him. Nonetheless, Mom was fairly athletic; she rode horses and played tennis.
I can count on fewer than the fingers of one hand the times I saw my mother cry, and it wasn’t until much later in her life.
The one time I ever saw Pop cry was when we lost Mom. 😞

I father never told me how to live. But provided a solid consistent example of how I might.
My mom never failed to find any cup on earth half empty.

I never seen my mom not find a way.
I never seen my dad apologize or admit his wrongs.

Same thing..they weren’t into fun stuff, but mother played tennis before I was born.

Never a kind word. Never a pat on the back. Never any encouragement. I don't recall ever having a conversation with my father and I kept a careful distance from my mother. I learned to be a good liar.

Never seen my dad play soccer even though he likes the game
Never saw my dad be "normal" around me.
Never saw my mother dressed up.
Never saw my mother dressed up.
@rinkydinkydoink My dad was never around me much so he never knew what to say to me or how to behave when he was. He also has quite a lot of guilt for having not been there so he's often nervous and sometimes inebriated when I've been near him.
No, I've never seen her dressed up for really anything. My birth mother was an addict and a prostitute... My dad was also a drunk (married to someone else so usually with his other family) an addict and a wife beater, so in jail often, hence the guilt etc. it's a long story.

@rinkydinkydoink I have had a good long while to sit and think about all the reasons behind it and what it means to myself as well as my siblings both full and half. Lots of time for introspection and healing and letting things go as well. I decided that even though that part is kind of set in stone, the rest is up to me and it is so lovely to be able to choose happiness for the road ahead. 😊

They sound perfectly normal :D
My mother always had me include her brother - my uncle George - in my bedtime prayers. The parents and I went to church every Sunday as a duty, it seemed.

@rinkydinkydoink Was it as dreadful as 'Songs of Praise' made it look?

We went in the 1950s and it was as you suggest... my mother made sure to wear her fur coat (I seem to remember it being muskrat?) and all the men wore suits - including me in my tinier version. I couldn't understand when it came time to sing, everyone knew the melodies.
LOL - my dad did seem to have an extra Crown Royal shot when we got home.
