In my culture that would be incredibly off putting

AngelaR80 · 41-45, F
Depends on age. Kids is OK but as get older that's possibly questionable.

My son is 11 and that's about top end for me but in public he'll fight off any kisses from me anyhow now😂

My daughter, nearly 14,very clearly now it's a peck on the cheek during a welcoming or farewell hug.
Naughtylittlegirl2025 · 16-17, F
This to me seems pretty Black and white no matter what cultures you're from..kissing on cheek to cheek even amongst men is considered a matter of respect and affection ...Family members and close friends who haven't seen each other especialy for a while like during holidays or special occasions..cheek kissing and is absolutely acceptable if you're familar with the other party..Kissing on lips 💋 is most definitely considered something intimate between to parties i don't care if it's boys or girls kissing on lips has always been considered a intimate behavior..Even when younger kids are playing spin the bottle type games they are always aware and understanding that this is amongst close friends 🧡 if that leads to other things afterwards thats up to consenual agreements 🤝 ✌

As babies, okay as long as you don’t have anything contagious. Not older..

I saw a pic of Angelina Jolie kissing her brother on the lips on the red carpet and that I also found in bad taste- in my opinion.
Nitedoc · 51-55, M
@MellyMel22 Angelina Jolie is pretty weird!
ScreamingFox · 41-45, F
That's a no for me. It can be innocent, my son did it a few times when he was very little but it made me uncomfortable.
Nunki · 31-35, F
It’s not a thing in my culture. Plus it exposes kids to unnecessary germs. You can show them love in safer ways
@CrazyMusicLover There are legit reasons not to kiss a child on the mouth; in most cultures it’s the difference between a romantic expression of affection vs. a platonic or familial one.

But introduce the issue of spreading germs and no one should be kissing anyone, right ? 🤔
CrazyMusicLover · 31-35
@bijouxbroussard Well, technically it is unsanitary. 😅 But I'm sure that adults have very difference experience from it. But I don't know. I hated being kissed when I was a child. I hated the wetness.
@CrazyMusicLover I wasn’t big on it as a child, either. There were only a handful of people I let hug me, although I didn’t always have a choice.
DeWayfarer · 61-69, M
Depends on the culture as well as the situation. I have been to cultures were it's acceptable.

I wouldn't recommend it in public here in the USA.
swirlie · 31-35
I wouldn't recommend even holding hands in public in the USA, so I hear you!
DrWatson · 70-79, M
In some cultures this is a regular thing. In others it is not.

And as the U.S. is a nation of immigrants, there will be a lot of variety from family to family here.
If the child is okay with that, I guess it's not bad. But consent is important regardless of age or relationship.
I think it's ok until a certain age. Then it's kind of weird. For me anyway.
Degbeme · 70-79, M
@MsSwan
@Degbeme 😘
2ndtimeguy · 61-69, M
As a dad with daughters was a no no
LordShadowfire · 46-50, M
@2ndtimeguy I can imagine.
2ndtimeguy · 61-69, M
@LordShadowfire my daughters are both huggers though
SpectralMourning · 41-45, M
Not my thing. I see lots of families that do quick pecks on the lips to greet and say goodbye. When around said families I find myself doing matrix-like maneuvers to make sure they get my cheek instead of my lips.
SwampFlower · 31-35, F
No, I’m not for it. I’ve only ever kissed my daughter on the top of her head. It’s weird and unsanitary anywhere else on the face to me.
gregloa · 61-69, M
It’s shouldn’t necessarily be the norm especially in older children but it’s also not sexual harassment or abuse unless you let a pervert around your child if so that’s on the parents. We’re not talking French kissing here. Don’t make your issues your child’s issues.
Magenta · F
If they are an infant or baby seems fine, anything too much beyond that seems inappropriate / creepy to me.
Katie01 · F
Perfectly normal. I kiss all my family on the mouth with tongue and I always have
faery · F
I feel it's inappropriate and the reason nearly 70% of the world's pop. is infected with hsv 1
FoxyGoddess · 51-55, F
My parents used to do this. Juat a peck. Nothing serious. I never thought anything about it, tbh.
calicuz · 56-60, M
It's ok when they're still young, but the older they get a kiss on the head or forehead seems more appropriate.
Ambroseguy80 · 56-60, M
I would say they really love their children.
I know of some cultures where that is done, but it’s generally still just a peck, not the kind of romantic kiss that occurs between adults.
meJess · F
A peck is a peck, age appropriate of course but most kids set their own limits.
swirlie · 31-35
@meJess
Oh, so a peck would be an 8 quart kiss then! That seems like a big kiss to me?
meJess · F
@swirlie do you have woodpeckers where you live?
swirlie · 31-35
@meJess

Yes I do!
Cigarguy · 41-45, M
I have always kissed my kids on their forehead or the top of the head. Sometimes I'll kiss their cheeks but never on the lips
Sweet00Lullaby · 36-40, F
I don't like it.
Torisdaddy · 41-45, M
They are loving and affectionate
Pfuzylogic · M
I kissed my grandfather on the mouth several times on his deathbed. It depends on the situation.
exexec · 70-79, C
We never did it, but I suppose it is okay for some people.
Bleak · 36-40, F
For me, it’s weird.
Sutten · 36-40, F
Not a fan. I don't do it.
justbob · 61-69, M
Why not? As long as its just a quick peck
Lilymoon · F
Creepy after 2 years old
LordShadowfire · 46-50, M
@Lilymoon I agree. Parents who are over 2 years old shouldn't do that.
LordShadowfire · 46-50, M
I think it's weird, but who am I to judge?
Ducky · 31-35, F
Quick pecks are harmless. Anything other than that is weird.
ChipmunkErnie · 70-79, M

Or presidents that do it?
This was the to do thing with top-level Soviets... not odd at all 😕

Nitedoc · 51-55, M
@rinkydinkydoink No,no,no!
swirlie · 31-35
As long as it's either my Dad or my grandfather who's doing the kissing, then I'm okay with it.
tenente · 36-40, M
i think release the Epstein files
