Why do you HATE attending family reunions?

The big kind - people who come from all over. Folks you haven't seen in ages. All arranged by a "beloved" extrovert who wants - almost demands - everyone to be happy!!

Sounds lovely to me. But then I’m from a family where divorce and separation and estrangement is too rampant. I do like family get togethers, even more as I get older and appreciate the heroes among us in every family.
@BiasForAction

Yours is a great attitude. I've some growing up to do.

I really only go to family reunions so my kids can be involved with the family. My social anxiety can hardly handle it lol but I just keep smiling and chatting so there’s that
@tiltawhirl

I sincerely wish I had your sense of duty.
MichaelT · 41-45, M
@tiltawhirl Its kind of same for me.
Often because someone who’s on their third divorce can be counted on to ask why I never remarried. 🙄
@bijouxbroussard

I was hoping you would respond. I know you speak often and lovingly of your family so I knew you'd have something interesting - and possible humorous - to say.

And you didn't fail me!

I like family reunions since I am the family historian. It gives me a chance to pick up stories from people I never see or may not even know.
@exexec

My brother-in-law and you would've liked one another. You and he were alike - and (I can see it now, but not then) bless him (and you) for taking up that responsibility.
Usually there isn't enough room for the amount of people, and I'm not good at small talk, or interacting with others.

Plus, if someone brings a pet, I'm supposed to ignore the pet and attempt to interact with the people
@sstronaut

Just a hunch but other peoples' pets are attracted to you - right? I've found there's an inexplicable kinship animals and reserved people seem to have with one another.

I've never been married but have been out of contact with my extended family for years as they're all diehard Christians and I'm irreligious. I also have no contact with my younger sister whom I had to take to court over our mum's estate 2 yrs ago.

I met my wife at a family reunion!

@rinkydinkydoink Darn tootin'!
MrAlmostCrazy · 46-50, M
Well I don't even like to go out when we're out of something I need badly, if you catch my drift.
@MrAlmostCrazy

I think I get your drift. Is it along the lines of what Mickey Rourke says to Faye Dunaway?

@rinkydinkydoink Feel better when they're not around, yep!! Bullseye.
DragonFruit · 61-69, M
Our big family reunions tend to take place at weddings or funerals....but I like the people in my family.
JamesBugman · 56-60, T
For me it is because I don't care about most of them to remember their names, so they say Hi and I say hi back, and my brain is like.. do I know this person? Should I know their name? Who the fk are they with? umm.. "lovely weather we are having eh".
@JamesBugman

Yup - another reason to open a beer or two or six...
Sidewinder · 36-40, M
I always liked attending family reunions.
@Sidewinder

That's the way to look at it. I wish I did, too - after all, a lot of them are friends you haven't met yet.
Sidewinder · 36-40, M
@rinkydinkydoink Or relatives you get along well with, despite not having seen them in ages.
zonavar68 · 56-60, M
Never had one. They sound like school reunions but worse.
BeJeweled · 61-69, F
We dont have family reunions anymore😌
Crazywaterspring · 61-69, M
Mine disowned me in the 80s for not marrying a white woman. Their loss.
TheShanachie · 61-69, M
Once you’re beyond 1rst cousin level they have nothing in common with you.
pride49 · 31-35, M
There was a super tall sexy 7 ft guy there xD. I hate people in general so yeah. The only annoyance is when pictures are demanded.
