Why do kids only hug leg?

I imagine they will out grow this phase though it take several years. Once the reach about 3ft or so they start hugging your waist. Again it is weird but at least they are no longer hugging your legs!
As for when they do this in public, just try to smile and indulge them for a few seconds then redirect them to a toy or some tasty treat, like Cheerios.

It may have to do with a size difference? Also it did make me wonder if it's a security thing they develop? For instance a good way to approach a horse is to pet there front shoulder first. The reason is they naturally feel safe with this because it's where thier mare kind of cuddles them by wrapping there head and neck around them when they're a foal.🤷
I'd just let it happen they'll grow out of it soon enough and you'll miss it when they do.

I'm sure she's just doing it to irritate you. Sit her down at the kitchen table and issue an ultimatum. Hug properly, or no more trips to the park 🤷‍♀
