Why do kids only hug leg?

Who do toddlers hug your leg? My toddler loves to hug my calf and rest her head on my knee. is there a certain age where they grow out of that stage? I mean, we dont hug people like that, it would be odd to hug someone’s leg. I’m curious what you do when they do this in public or home?

It may have to do with a size difference? Also it did make me wonder if it's a security thing they develop? For instance a good way to approach a horse is to pet there front shoulder first. The reason is they naturally feel safe with this because it's where thier mare kind of cuddles them by wrapping there head and neck around them when they're a foal.🤷
I'd just let it happen they'll grow out of it soon enough and you'll miss it when they do.
