You almost have to do that now for some.

Look at Costco - you have to buy a membership to shop there. You effectively give away your right to privacy of your personal information on the premise that you get access to 'exclusive privleges' etc.

You are pushed to pay electronically.

That's a step towards Full Digital ID (tm), the eradication of cash, and the removing of privacy of your personal financial information and the right to choose how to pay for goods and services.

Ikea stores in Sydney have massive checkout areas - one at Rhodes has like 30 checkouts. But only 1 takes cash. For the rest, you can only pay with a card or other electronic payment type that's accepted.

I support a business' right to set policy. I also support a shopper's right to shop where they want. Since I already shop at Costco, I guess I'm ok with it

I don’t like giving away too much information to shops. (Why the f$&k do they need my home address when I’m buying a hat?!) but after seeing the news story about the shoplifters attacking staff with knives. I’m willing to do whatever, that helps keep staff safe.

@Thevy29 So I guess you arent part of any reward schemes then?😷
Thevy29 · 41-45, M
@whowasthatmaskedman None that request my home address.
nedkelly · 61-69, M
@Thevy29 especially in Victoria
Quimliqer · 70-79, M
They tried that in my closest city, for liquor stores. It was deemed a breach of privacy, plus their systems are so loose it wouldn’t take an amateur hacker to steal identities!!
whowasthatmaskedman · 70-79, M
In effect you do that now every time you pay with a card. Personally I have no problem with it,😷
I'll go elsewhere as long as there is a choice. Enforce the laws that exist and do away with this sanctuary city /no criminal prosecution b.s. and shoplifting will be reduced.
HoeBag · 46-50, F
Every time they go digital with something, it is one more chance for the hackers to steal people's ID.

How often do we hear stories about data breaches? Obviously companies do not do much to prevent it.

Only if Home Depot would take the locks off all the stuff , I hate that, Walmart even locks up the underwear now.
No- it's bizarre how people are acting as if this is nothing- what right do they have to do that as a private business?
AngelUnforgiven · 51-55, F
I'm okay with it. I don't see a problem with it.

@AngelUnforgiven Another step into the Orwellian future. Like sheep to the slaughter.

RosaMarie · 46-50, F
@Pretzel If it's a mistake you get 1 minute to fill a cart at no cost.
Pretzel · 70-79, M
@RosaMarie there you go!
Yeah and dutifully avoiding addressing why more people are resorting to theft and predatory loans just to buy groceries.
There will never be a way to completely eliminate fire from our world... just saying eh.
Nitedoc · 51-55, M
