Hell no. I'd just go somewhere else or shop online if possible and have it delivered.

@MoveAlong Small point of order. Shopping on line or with delivery still means you are clearly identified , as is your address.. Looks like you are off to the farmers market..😷

@whowasthatmaskedman To be properly ambiguous a person needs to use cash for all in-person purchases so there is no electronic 'fingerprint' of the 'last mile' use of one's money. That removes the ability of business, government, bank, etc. to 'track' how you spend, link to potential future social credit scoring used by government, insurance, banks, etc., and protects the basic privacy of one's financial information.

Businesses are now starting to use things like facial recognition though. They boast that it's for 'loss prevention' etc but in reality it's another way to 'track' all customers and this will eventually be fine-tuned to look at how a 'tracked face' pays and make assumptions based on some back-end AI's configuration. You only have to look at almost all checkouts in big stores, especially where real checkouts are being replaced by self-checkouts, and see how many cameras there are just focused in those areas.

The adage 'if you are doing nothing wrong...' doesn't really hold true anymore because AI backends look at *all* data (not just camera data) pertaining to a customers (and indeed even staff members) activities and might think you are a potential crim or business risk just because you trigger 'suspicion filters' in the data analytics engine through your normal behaviour.

Paying with cash has been demonised since Covid and that has been amplified with the push towards digital ID, social credit scores, etc.

@zonavar68 We agree. but a simple slip up like use of a reward or memebership club card at point of purchase can leave even your cash purchase with your electronice scent on it.. Even parking lot cameras use numberplate ID to allow you to exit a parking lot you have paid your ticket in cash.. Just like service station drive off cameras.😷

@MoveAlong Exactly! We, the consumers, hold the cards, not the store!

@whowasthatmaskedman Did you know many if not most car dealerships have face recognition technology installed that lets them check your credit report when your walking around the car lot or come through the door.
whowasthatmaskedman · 70-79, M
@MoveAlong I didnt. But its logical..But I have a lousy credit report, having nothing on credit. Facial recognition will be everywhere. Even paired with speed and red light cameras here.😷

@whowasthatmaskedman I assume all of my personal data is compromised. I do what I can to protect myself. I have a credit lock in place with all three agencies. If someone applies for credit in my name the lender won't be able to get my credit report and would likely turn down any loan or credit card application..

@MoveAlong Until Covid is was easier to keep a screen up by paying cash on small ticket items, and without going into detail I worked the system to suit me. But I shift tack during the pandemic and opened a seperate debit card through which all the only line purchases and non cash payments go. The government knows what I need it to know..
