when you are asked to provide an 'emergency contact' and you don't really have one...

I have no significant other, and no family nearby except my 7 y/o daughter who lives mostly with my ex.

My closest family is my adult kids 150 km away. Not providing an emergency contact is usually not allowed.

So I usually put my eldest daughter down but if I got in trouble she's not nearby.

I have been alone almost my whole adult life with no family.
As an emergency contact I use my one friend I keep in regular contact with. He is 78 and not in the best of health so if he was to pass away then I would have no one as a contact.
If I remember rightly, I was once hospitalised and told them I do not have an emergency contact. The hospital did not pursue the issue.

They don't actually have to be nearby they can still act on your behalf and make decisions in case of an emergency.

Yeah my emergency number is still my ex because there is no one else
I never give out an emergency contact.

@Hinckley I'm going to an indoor climbling place and you have to fill out a waiver which requires an emergency contact or you are not allowed to take part.

@zonavar68 I doubt they would verify the emergency contact number so put down any name and number (keep a copy).
I have to use my ex-husband
Then you don't have to give one!
