Guys, why the F do y'all ignore injuries?

Arrived home and noticed my bf has his weight shifted to one side while standing and walking. "Ah i kinda fecked my knee at work." He says. Took a look at it and it was swelling up. Not only did he stay in work to finish his shift but Mf was up and about trying to do housework. 😠

I literrally sat him on the couch, gave him an ice bag and made him stay off it. are all you guys like this?

Yep mostly. Lifetime of being told to man up.
@OldBrit Spit on it and rub it in the dirt was our common phrase with us Gen X'ers.

I mean yeah, as long as it seems like something that'll probably go away on its own. If I sprain my ankle, that's one thing, but if it's just a bad bruise or whatever, the healing rate benefits of laying down with an ice pack will very rarely outweigh the productivity loss.
It's a Monty Python thing - you women wouldn't understand.

Erm...yeah most of us

Not a man, but I ignore them too. I once hurt my foot after jumping from my bedroom window, and I never did anything about it. It did heal. I also cut myself all over, and never did anything about that apart from clean the cuts. I don't often get ill, but if I did, it would take a lot for me to ask for medical assistance. It is ironic, considering I wanted to be a doctor.

I would never be like this with my children, I would always use caution with them. I also tell my family members to see a doctor if something is wrong.

If I can do stuff still. And I have hemophilia. But I know my hemophilia better than doctors do.

That's the weakness of not being able to rely on others for help. Yes, we are taught to be independent but not all situations can call for that. And men are not doctors but we sure like to pretend to be them, just to not have to rely on another person, which we struggle with immensely.

We ignore injuries because we expect them to go away by themselves. Plus, most of us hate to go to the doctor. Women are FAR more likely to go to the doctor over relatively minor injuries.

I learned as a young athlete that you had to play with pain and not complain. I haven't been able to outgrow that attitude even if it is usually wrong.

Pretty much. Flesh wounds are ignored. Being rendered unconscious will probably result in time out, though...
Yes. When my DR says just don't over due it that's my free reign to not worry about it
ChipmunkErnie · 70-79, M
Because we were taught to "shake it off", to keep going, that a "man" did not give in.

🤔 Duz this mean you received a "Rain-Check," from him, for doing the cleaning?
We’ve been taught that no one cares
Subsumedpat · 36-40, M
Yea we are pretty bad about that.

Lack of health insurance or a high deductible could play a factor.

@Azlotto Send ya to the poor house.
