A house and garage full of stuff I will never use again but haven't found the inclination to do Swedish Death Cleaning on yet. Actually started by giving books from my "library" this Christmas, but most of those were ones I had just finished reading this year that I thought the recipient would enjoy so it didn't even make a dent into the 4 bookcases and 35 boxes full stashed around. The boxes are what remained when I winnowed and downsized on moving into this house -- the ones I felt I had to keep because I might want to refer back to again. (An equal number of boxes got donated to the library.) Needless to say nary a one of those boxes has been opened in the 20 years I've been in this house.

@dancingtongue I'm Swedish but I have never heard of Swedish death cleaning , how does it differ from any other death cleaning??
dancingtongue · 80-89, M
@Queendragonfly The Swedish term, I understand, is dostadning. Decluttering your home so you won't leave as big a mess for your heirs to pass on. Closet organizers embraced the methods; the marketing people came up with the new term to make sure it "trended" and there are a host of books and YouTube sites with the new title.
Queendragonfly · 31-35, F
@dancingtongue ahhh Döstädning! I've heard of that. But I didn't know it was Swedish specific.

Allergies...really BAD allergies. 😭😭😭
HumanEarth · 56-60, F

@4meAndyou I will wait for your feedback after a few weeks 😊

Nimbus · M
@Dusty101 It may be a passing fad or she may go on to be part of a rock band! ;)
Dusty101 · F
@Nimbus oh no, lessons and all. Very serious at this she is! 😖
Jenny1234 · 51-55, F
@Dusty101 do you have mute pads?
A load of worries …
Nimbus · M
@Soossie Awwww, it seems we all do to a greater or lesser extent.
Part of life it seems.
@Nimbus

Indeed … Thank you Nimbus .. 🤗🤗

@saragoodtimes Can you sell it?
@Nimbus he starts it frequently don't know why he doesn't sell it
Nimbus · M
@saragoodtimes I used to have motorcycles like that :)
Ontheroad · M
At this point in my life it's a lifetime collection of tools... like lots and lots of them and worse, box after box after container after container of odds and ends of hardware, electrical cables, nails, screws, and on and on... none of which I will ever use but I can't seem to let them go because "what if?" I mean it's sort of insane... who keeps 6" of 1x2 that they won't ever use? Not to mention all sorts of other scrap wood.
Nimbus · M
@IAmAMarriedPerson Good point ;)
AbbeyRhode · F
Too much! I live with packrats. Am trying to dump some of the clutter, but it's not easy.
Nimbus · M
@AbbeyRhode Good luck with that! ;)
AbbeyRhode · F
@Nimbus I have made some good progress, and hope to make lots more. :)
Nimbus · M
@AbbeyRhode Well done, I hope you succeed :)
RenFur · 70-79, M
Even though I don't need about 40 lbs of disgusting fat, I sure as Hell enjoyed acquiring it!
Nimbus · M
@RenFur Time to hit the gym? ;)
RenFur · 70-79, M
@Nimbus Oh, all right... as soon as I finish my beer.
Too many self-doubts.
@helenS You seem to be suprised :)
helenS · 36-40, F
@RobinPhoenix Considering your excellent contributions on SW I wouldn't have thought you're plagued with self-doubts 🌷
@helenS Oh wow, thank you for your words, which I would not have expected :) Thank you :) Your words mean all the more to me as English is not my first language.

My self-doubt relates more to my job and the resulting encounters with other people... which would be colleagues and clients so to speak. On SW I rarely have to be spontaneous and I have time to think about my posts and if I have a bad day, I don't have to perform here... it's not like that in real life (unfortunately).
supersnipe · 61-69, M
Quite a lot actually! the older one gets, the more it builds up. So among other things; portable radios, the contents of my spice cupboard, some clothes and bedding, gadgets, ornaments and physical recording media. I've got rid of quite a lot since I retired a couple of years ago, but the answer is still quite a lot. I'll never be a minimalist, but there's still a way to go...
Nimbus · M
@supersnipe Those radios may become valuable in years to come.
supersnipe · 61-69, M
@Nimbus Some of them are worth more than what I paid for them already...Not that it matters. I collect them, or rather did, but tend to get less 'stuff' now as I am all too aware of how much space it takes up. Things that I fancy in second hand shops or on eBay tend to stay there nowadays!
Video games on Steam that have gone untouched for almost a year 😒

@BritishFailedAesthetic A passing fad?
@Nimbus Basically, I have my seasons!

Nimbus · M
@helenS Good luck :)

Probably a tooth cavity.
Nimbus · M
@CrazyMusicLover Uggh!

I hate those! 😧
CrazyMusicLover · 31-35
@Nimbus I guess it's still a better option than a cracked tooth. 😅 Either way, I hope it's a minor problem that can be fixed with a filling and no other thing will be needed.
samanthaX · 41-45, T
@Submissiveiendencies yes I agree, I have far to many male clothes and a shortage of lovey girly clothes ♥️♥️♥️💋💋💋
Thodsis · 51-55, M
Easy access to the internet.

It's annoyingly addictive.

It would be lovely to see it turned off.
Thodsis · 51-55, M
@Nimbus I spent nearly ten years without easy internet access.

I wasn't in prison. :)

I was told about MySpace and FaceBook but ignored it because the internet was something that happened on other people's computers.

I read many more books and watched films on DVD.

But I now find myself writing this instead of reading books or watching films....
Nimbus · M
@Thodsis After a little thought I appreciate your sentiments more than I first did and realise that I too have been drawn into this arena. 👍
Thodsis · 51-55, M
@Nimbus It's easily done. Videogames are fun but having other pastimes is useful.

Particularly the ones that don't enrich the rich even further. :)
smiler2012 · 56-60

exexec · 61-69, C
Most of the hundreds of books in my library.
Nimbus · M
@exexec Can you pass them on to someone who woul appreciate them?
exexec · 61-69, C
@Nimbus I donate a box or two to the local library when I need more room. The genealogy books will go to a genealogical library eventually.
Nimbus · M
@exexec Good to hear they will be used rather than disposed of 👍

@MoonlightLullaby Awww, me too.
I take meds that are effective.
MoonlightLullaby · 41-45, F
@Nimbus My meds only tamper it to an extent.

Glad yours work for you.
Nimbus · M
@MoonlightLullaby Can the dose be increased?
Have you considered Cognitive behavioural therapy in addition to the meds?
Bleak · 36-40, F
My irrelevant stuff that I am not willing to get rid of, since I am a horrible hoarder.

@Nimbus It's a bunch of junk.

@Azlotto I got rid of mine, too. But I did have a lot of fun with it. Toward the end I was smashing cobalt blue wine bottles, and tumbling the pieces to make "beach glass". ☺️
Azlotto · M
@4meAndyou I was excited about tumbling rocks until I found out how long it takes.
WandererTony · 56-60, M
My motorbike
Nimbus · M
@WandererTony Wow, why don't you need it?
Can you sell it?
WandererTony · 56-60, M
@Nimbus i bought it as a passion some years back. The model didnt do well in the market so the services are poor. Also I am hardly in town so i get to use it very less. And i can ride only in winter. Other seasons i need my car due to the climate and weather!
I think it will sell, but heavily discounted as the model is not in demand. 😔
Justenjoyit · 56-60, M
3 inchs because apparently you only need 4 inches to satisfy lol
Nimbus · M
@Justenjoyit Thanks for the ino, lol

uncalled4 · 56-60, M
My girlfriend's ludicrous number of shoes.
uncalled4 · 56-60, M
@Nimbus I haven't counted, but let me put it this way, sometimes I can't get the front door opened.
helenS · 36-40, F
@uncalled4 Many women suffer from that special type of "shoe fetishism" – a very expensive disease... 😏
uncalled4 · 56-60, M
@helenS I know. One of my women friends was practically Imelda Marcos...until recently, when she found that mice had gotten in and chomped on a lot of her collection.

Look, I get about the concepts--shoes, bags, accessories, but that is not the issue so much as my gf has ADHD and lacks an "off" switch with this shit and we are WAY out of room.
samanthaX · 41-45, T
Guys clothes !!!
Nimbus · M
@samanthaX Give them to charity.
samanthaX · 41-45, T
@Nimbus yes I will 💋♥️
