I Wear A Kilt

I have scottish heritage on my mothers side of the family which I am quite proud of . I find the scots far friendlier and welcoming and homely than the english . My father is english and the less said about that the better . His family are all wealthy and have nothing to do with me as I am not rich enough for them . I often wear my heritage tartan proudly but been unable to find sock flashes as it is an ancient tartan so will probably have to have them specially made .

I went to Scotland. our driver wore a kilt. i asked him what he wore under it and he showed me. nothing
hippyjoe1955 · 61-69, M
@akindheart About a dozen. Only one is tartan. I adopted my wife's family tartan because her grandparents were from Scotland. The kilt is an excellent garment to walk in if you are a male. No chaffing.
akindheart · 61-69, F
@hippyjoe1955 that makes sense. i love the colors. i bought scarves when i was over there
hippyjoe1955 · 61-69, M
@akindheart The tartans are often bright and colorful. I wear what is often referred to as a walking kilt. Most of mine are of one color Khaki or tan or camo or black. I have one green one that I don't care for but I wear it when I am working. If it gets dirty I don't care. lol

I did a lot of work in Scotland in the recession of the late 1980s/early 1990s and made some good friends. However, to stereotype the Scots as friendlier than the English sounds like your personal prejudice rather than anything based in fact. There's good and back in all cultures......

A kilt is like the manliest clothing.
Ceinwyn · 26-30, F
Most Scots wear them at weddings and never again.
JimboSaturn · 51-55, M
@Ceinwyn like a tux
Ceinwyn · 26-30, F
@JimboSaturn exactly

i loved Scotland and our driver wore a kilt. i asked him what was under it (yeah cheeky for sure) and he showed me. nothing. it was freezing out too.

@akindheart The cold weather is really not as big a thing as one might think. I don't always wear anything under my warm skirts in the winter and it's quite a bit colder in Norway. And my skirts don't have anything like as much material in them as a Scottish kilt.
akindheart · 61-69, F
@ninalanyon i would freeze
ninalanyon · 61-69, T
@akindheart No you wouldn't. You just have to dress for the weather. Here are a couple of pictures from Norway, taken sometime between December and February, somewhere between -10°C and -5°C:

Long Jaeger coat, short skirt, thick tights, boots almost to the knee.

There was no wind when the second shot was taken so I didn't even need gloves for a short walk from my car. You can't see but I was wearing fake fur mittens in the first one.

When I was in Scotland some years ago I didn't see any man, not a single man, wearing one. 😐
@helenS The only people who wear kilts are tourists
RedBaron · M
@helenS Not a single man? Do married men wear kilts?
helenS · 36-40, F
@RedBaron 🤭

My Scottish and English heritage is on my dad's side. I also have Irish heritage that I never knew about til I did a DNA ancestry kit 2 years ago.
Royrogers · 61-69, M
I recall a time there was always someone walking down the street wearing a kilt in Scotland
JimboSaturn · 51-55, M
I think a kilt looks fine without them. I have a kilt as well but don't wear it often.
Rhode57 · 56-60, M
@JimboSaturn You look great and you should . Be proud of your heritage man the scots are beautiful friendly people .
ArishMell · 70-79, M
You can't write off an entire population just because one family is unfriendly! :-)
malizz · 70-79, M
I usually get flashes done from an offcut when the kilt is made.
Arrow17 · 46-50, F
😃. My husband is Scottish too.
Thevy29 · 41-45, M
Wasn't there that one tartan from a disgraced clan your not allowed to wear in Scotland under any circumstance?
JimboSaturn · 51-55, M
@Thevy29 Campbell's?
Thevy29 · 41-45, M
@JimboSaturn Not sure, was Rob Roy a Campbell, I think he had something to do with the disgraced clan..
malizz · 70-79, M
@Thevy29 He was a McGregor but since that name was banned, he used Campbell after his mother as an alias. There was some proscription of tartans but not specifically that clan.
hippyjoe1955 · 61-69, M
I only wear kilts. I don't have any traditional tartan as heritage is Welsh not Scottish. That aside kilts are very comfortable to wear and I get endless compliments on the ones I wear.
Harry121 · M
Have you tried if locharan have the tartan in stock? They can probably make it themselves or sell you the fabric and get someone else to do it
SmoothKnight · 51-55, M
Kilts I intrigue me, but I don't know if I'm cheeky enough to wear one....
SmoothKnight · 51-55, M
@akindheart

akindheart · 61-69, F

SmoothKnight · 51-55, M

Barefooter25 · 46-50, M
Prince Charles wore one for many,many years. Especially when he was married to Diana.
malizz · 70-79, M
@Barefooter25 Now he's King, he sports a new tartan.
Entwistle · 56-60, M
I've been up to Scotland many a time and I've never seen anyone wearing a kilt.
SunshineGirl · 36-40, F
What clan is your tartan from?
Rhode57 · 56-60, M
@SunshineGirl Davidson .
malizz · 70-79, M

Havesomefun2 · 56-60, M
