I run to here when I am sad/conflicted/drunk.

today, sad.

My 22 year old niece said she blows marijuana smoke in her 4 year old daughters face to "calm her down".

My friend-ish said she blows smoke in her pitbulls face to calm her down.

what are your thoughts?

EDIT:

The interesting part about calling CPS is..... the child would then go into foster care....ask any foster kid there is, and they would say it is horrendous. The kids with my niece (besides the smoke) are well fed and taken care of. They are really smart for their ages, too. I don't see any mental issues in them at all. Not even behavioral issues. They do all the "pleases" and "thank yous".

EDIT 2:

Is anyone on here brave enough to say they do it too? I know it is not as rare as it sounds. PM me? Everyone deserves a voice.

If cps were to get called and the child tested positive she would immediately go into foster care to potentially get raped, neglected and abused.

You don’t call cps on family. If you had an issue you should have stated it right then and then and told her that was morally wrong and abusive. And even go as far as to explain to her that the child could get taken away if the state found out she was doing that. If she wasn’t receptive you should reach out to more surrounding family members (especially the grandparent) and express your concern

@DeluxedEdition It could be the case where you are but it depends on the childs age, the social worker, and the department procedures. There are some cities that are very effective and there are those that aren't.
DeluxedEdition · 26-30, F
@Carazaa okay, and what’s your point?

You think it’s more justified to call cps and have them potentially take your child away. Potentially put them in a position to be raped, starved and neglected by strangers who often become foster parents solely to get government checks because they “might not take them away” because you were too scared to speak up to the mother about her parenting that you disagree with?
Carazaa · F
@DeluxedEdition My point? I was just responding to your statement that cps would immediately put them in foster care. They might or they might not, it depends on the particular city and department.

That's terrible. They could take her child away from her if anyone found out. That is straight-up abuse and reckless.

My question is, do you ever smoke weed yourself? I've gone through stages, myself, hitting both extremes if the spectrum for many years each. I've done it enough to know the way it is beneficial to me. I'm a combat vet with PTSD. It shows in everything I do when I'm not under the influence of marijuana. I'm wound up tighter than a swiss watch and easily triggered. ..it only takes just a single hit of weed to settle me down into what I call civilian status where I have no problem going with the flow. It also does wonders for any chronic pain or discomfort I have in my bones and joints.

As for blowing it into a minor's face or an animal's face, there are better ways. You can decarb it and put it in a pill case. I've done that for one of my dogs as he was dying and wouldn't eat. I did it to induce his appetite. It worked well.

I have a son who was born helplessly disabled. He's so far off the chart, they don't know if he's also autistic, however he was prescribed medication thats also prescribed to autistic people to calm them down. I can't remember what it's called. We took him off of it because it was droning him out . I wanted to grind up some decarbed weed and shove it through his G tube but his mom was against it. Instead we just white knuckle it through all his tantrums due to his sensitivity issues. That choice has, over the years, caused us to lose all our friends and rarely get invites to family functions either..

Since then, I've seen a documentary about a man whose child is autistic and he has been giving him weed to help keep him calm and there are many doctors who agree with him. In hindsight, I wish I would have done the same thing. But I was scared of CPS to be honest with you.
I really think that’s abuse. Just saying. I really hope you are well. Was thinking of you the other day, so although I’m sad that you’re sad. I hope I can help. 🖤

@DarkHeaven no, sadness comes and goes. I am more fine than not, most days. no worries for me. I couldn't kill myself if I tried, anyway
@HellsBelle time after time.

The first one is clearly child abuse. The second one is a relatively mild mistreatment of an animal.
HellsBelle · 31-35, F
@BlueVeins in her defense she has the personality of chill high surfer dude in california. I do believe she would say any and everything that came to mind. I don't think it gets worse behind doors. 3 days with her and she never once raised her voice or hand to the kids.
BlueVeins · 22-25
@HellsBelle That seems like a good sign. Have you seen inside her home?
HellsBelle · 31-35, F
@BlueVeins no, she came 5 hours my way to have a fam reunion basically. I do know they rent a trailer. I also know they didn't want to leave their weed stash there because they thought someone would break in and take it. and they have a 93 8 seater without AC and without locks.... blue collar. I also know my nieces friend watches the kids mostof the time even though she is a stay at home mom. it seems complicated.

@HellsBelle it’s always a tough call.

Personally i would consider it child abuse and animal abuse. There are effects of that smoke, especially to children and animals. There is no doubt about that, so no one can even consider it to be normal.

But i am not here to judge, i just hope they come to realize how harmful it can be.
CrazyMusicLover · 31-35
Apart from potentially harmful effect of it on the kid's health, it's also a nasty gesture.
HellsBelle · 31-35, F
@CrazyMusicLover I feel that way too. the 4 year old is little girl is so full life and happy and silly. my niece was showing me her "stash" and the little girl didn't even ask like "what is that?". so she must be completely used to it. it is legal is my nieces state. not blowing in smoke her kids face, but weed in general.
DOCS make things worse..

its a business for them. right or wrong. guilty or not. they will get involved for a slice of that funding ca$h..
@HellsBelle department of child services 🇦🇺
HellsBelle · 31-35, F
@TheOneyouwerewarnedabout then 1000000% agree. It's sad. Dang I need to give 2 best comments. I'm gonna try.
@HellsBelle my prediction.. red flag laws will usher in a million ‘anonymous’ tips from these ppl. Targeting ppl they don’t like much..
screw their lives up. Take the kids. Make them spend their life savings proving themselves capable.
And the business will roll in dollars 👍
itsok · 31-35, F
I think it is abuse.
I’ve known people who would do that to their dogs.
When my oldest dog was a puppy someone asked if they could do it to her and I said no.
When I wasn’t around they did it anyone, and my dog was not the same.
Doomflower · 36-40, M
I have known parents who do this and my grandma used to use whisky with me.
HellsBelle · 31-35, F
@Doomflower see thats the honesty we need. My mom said her parents would rub whiskey on her gums, for teething, before orajel existed
Beatbox34 · 31-35, M
Bad parenting.

Honestly, that shouldn't be done.

I hope you feel better soon too (as in get out of this state)
pdockal · 56-60, M
UGHHHHH
seriously
She's going to harm that child
DO SOMETHING !!!!!
DeluxedEdition · 26-30, F
@pdockal “hell” cough cough karma
kodiac · 22-25, M
@HellsBelle No foster care is hell on earth
HellsBelle · 31-35, F
@kodiac I agree
justanothername · 51-55, M
Definitely not an ideal way to calm a 4 year old daughter down. Her mom needs to ask her daughter what’s making her irritated.
HellsBelle · 31-35, F
@justanothername I agree. I could tell her all day but the mom won't change her personality
justanothername · 51-55, M
@HellsBelle Sometimes they just have to learn the hard way. Either way they will still blame you when it goes wrong and you will feel like shit.
HellsBelle · 31-35, F
@justanothername I am just glad her kids seem so well off. very smart and polite, despite their mother. Im going to try and see them more often so they can see a different adult in their life.
Carazaa · F
Marijuana keeps in cells forever, and it changes the brain, and will create brain damage in kids where the brain has not finished growing yet (25 yrs old)
There is a correlation of Paranoid-Schizophrenia and marijuana smoking so bad idea...
Neoerectus · M
I am more upset by the dangers of second hand smoke on young lungs. Ive known too many people who died from cancers...esp lung cancer.
HellsBelle · 31-35, F
@Neoerectus ....second hand smoke is for cigarettes. no one has died from marijuana. In fact marijuana helps cancer patients.
Neoerectus · M
@HellsBelle No, the smoke also causes issues. People just overlook for the positive. I know people who shifted to Gummi`s to not get the smoke. Hell, vaping is shown to damage lungs.
DeluxedEdition · 26-30, F
@HellsBelle that’s not true. marijuana smoke is four times as toxic as cigarette tar because it’s unfiltered. and marijuana is prescribed to cancer patients for nausea and pain relief. It doesn’t cure cancer

Even smoking, even tobacco, in the very presence of a child is a disgrace.
MURD3RM0NK3Y · 26-30, M
I don't think that's okay. But to each their own I guess
11knaves11 · 41-45, M
Definitely when I been drankin😝👌🏽
HellsBelle · 31-35, F
@11knaves11 I appreciate the honesty
Zonuss · 41-45, M
It's wrong. Get well soon.
HellsBelle · 31-35, F
@Zonuss get well?
