I run to here when I am sad/conflicted/drunk.

today, sad.

My 22 year old niece said she blows marijuana smoke in her 4 year old daughters face to "calm her down".

My friend-ish said she blows smoke in her pitbulls face to calm her down.

what are your thoughts?

EDIT:

The interesting part about calling CPS is..... the child would then go into foster care....ask any foster kid there is, and they would say it is horrendous. The kids with my niece (besides the smoke) are well fed and taken care of. They are really smart for their ages, too. I don't see any mental issues in them at all. Not even behavioral issues. They do all the "pleases" and "thank yous".

EDIT 2:

Is anyone on here brave enough to say they do it too? I know it is not as rare as it sounds. PM me? Everyone deserves a voice.

The first one is clearly child abuse. The second one is a relatively mild mistreatment of an animal.

@BlueVeins not animal abuse? what makes one more mild than the other?

@HellsBelle I'm not an expert, but from what I've read, frequent cannabis use hurts the development of a human brain in teen years, let alone early childhood. Your niece is stealing away part of her daughter's intelligence, her potential moving forward, and no matter what she does, she will never have a chance to fully recover from that. And while weed is one of the safer drugs in existence, it has an impact on emotional development that just can't be good for a child.

I was gonna say that the dog is probably less susceptible to these adverse effects assuming that it's fully mature, buuuut turns out THC is toxic to dogs anyway sooooooooo nevermind forget what i just said

@BlueVeins But is it worth calling CPS? Have the children in foster care?
BlueVeins · 22-25
@HellsBelle Your guess is as good as mine, but remember -- CPS is gonna be asking the same question when they arrive. I've been lucky enough not to have any encounters with them, but I don't think they take pleasure in parting mothers from their daughters. And if she's willing to tell you that she exposes her own child to a psychoactive drug, imagine what she does behind closed doors that she'd never breathe a word about.

@BlueVeins My cousin went through the system this very way.... All I know is that it did not go well.

@BlueVeins in her defense she has the personality of chill high surfer dude in california. I do believe she would say any and everything that came to mind. I don't think it gets worse behind doors. 3 days with her and she never once raised her voice or hand to the kids.

@HellsBelle That seems like a good sign. Have you seen inside her home?
HellsBelle · 31-35, F
@BlueVeins no, she came 5 hours my way to have a fam reunion basically. I do know they rent a trailer. I also know they didn't want to leave their weed stash there because they thought someone would break in and take it. and they have a 93 8 seater without AC and without locks.... blue collar. I also know my nieces friend watches the kids mostof the time even though she is a stay at home mom. it seems complicated.
