What are the reccommendations of Pelosi and Schumer? All I hear from them is Trump-bashing, no solutions!
SimplyTracie · 26-30, F
@fanuc2013 Yeah but it kinda hurt my cheeks.
fanuc2013 · 51-55, F
@SimplyTracie LOL!!!
SimplyTracie · 26-30, F
@fanuc2013 🤣

Budwick · 70-79, M
Sweetie, Trump is the first president to respond at all.
So, suck up the sarcasm and say thank you!
SatanBurger · 36-40, F
@basilfawlty89 Oh shit, I didn't know that.
Kwek00 · 41-45, M
@Budwick It's kinda strange to say that Budwick...

Since a lot of presidents (for example: Nixon, Reagan) ran on the idea that they had to restore law and order by getting more police on the street and cracking down hard on "crimes".

An this president, also said several times, that the good old days where the times that people were brought away on a stretcher after getting involved with the police, was a good thing. Something a lot of people voted for.

This feels more like a 180 just before the elections.
It's a bit like waving the rainbow flag, and once in office kicking them out of the militairy and removing anti-discrimination laws when it comes to their healthcare.
JohnOinger · 41-45, M
@Budwick 😂 LOL

Only trying, belatedly though, to cover his own ass. But yes, better late than never

Sorry I’m just extremely jaded when it comes to some things, I shall try to be more upbeat 😊@fanuc2013

@dommagic that's the spirit!

I’m not defending trump here but all his predecessors had the opportunity to do the same
SimplyTracie · 26-30, F
@SW-User Why not defend Trump? This is good. Hopefully it’s not just words printed on a piece of paper. Next is to follow up with action.
SW-User
@SimplyTracie cause he’s a dork...
But yes, we shall see what happens now...
signing an executive order doesn’t always equate to pixie dust being sprinkled on the issue and it’s instantly fixed
SW-User
I just watched the press conference. I know some people will say at least he's doing something. I wish he'd get a clue that he needs to ask for calm and make some attempt to unify the nation. He went off on some rambling tangents. Better late than never? Probably for his base, along with the ones that have been on the fence as to whether to vote for him again.
fanuc2013 · 51-55, F
@SW-User if you check out any business person , they have all had failures. And I am not a republican, I don't drink anybody's kool-aid. Now, as far as unemployment goes, I see new factories being built near me, and their parking lots are full! My hubby works for GM and many of the depts. in his shop are working 24/7. Chrysler is building a new Jeep plant in Detroit, and Ford was advertising for skilled trades on the radio! There is a new skilled trades school starting in Detroit, and I see "help wanted" signs all over where I live, so, I would think you will be pleasantly surprised when the new unemployment numbers come out in the next few months. I predict big gains every quarter!
fanuc2013 · 51-55, F
And also, about the "civil war",I have heard that about several presidents in my lifetime, and it has never happened, and never will! All that talk is from a bunch of radicals that want their time in front of a microphone.
SW-User
@fanuc2013 lol. I never stated you were a Republican.

Not every business person has had failures as you state. Most haven't. And, it's very rare for anyone to have as many failures as Trump has had. Usually, when that occurs, it means either incompetence or huckster. But, ya know, keep those blinders on about your God Trump.

Every state is experiencing high unemployment rates. That's a fact posted by the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics. I stated
We haven't seen the economic fallout yet
Although I don't believe your area is currently experiencing such an amazing expansion at this moment in time as you are claiming, if it is, just wait. It's normal for the full effect of an economic fallout to be delayed. Bankruptcies don't happen overnight. As I stated, there will be a domino effect. Many business owners are doing whatever they can to stay afloat. So, make sure you're saving your pennies. We will be experiencing some very stormy weather in 2021 and beyond. And, if Biden pulls off a miracle & wins, the economic downturn won't be attributable to him. It will be attributable to Trump and those morons on both sides of the aisles who pushed such a terrible stimulus package through. They've completely devalued the dollar. I know people who can't get their employees to go back to work because their employees have been making more money not working.

I don't know the crowd you're running around with but, I've never heard we'll experience a civil war under any other presidency in my lifetime.

You and I will never agree. You can have the last word if you like because I won't be responding any further. I'm not interested in continuing this useless discussion with you. It's a complete waste of our time. Enjoy your life.
All bullshit - the police departments should already have these measures in practice. What he needs to sign is a immediate termination for any police office that is not following the rules.
@fanuc2013 what are you talking about- states rights ?
fanuc2013 · 51-55, F
@MarmeeMarch the federal government has limited powers on telling the states what to do on a lot of things. I'm not a lawyer, but that subject was covered in government class. States all have different laws, regulations and rules covering their employees, from police to teachers to street cleaners. So, it is a complicated subject.
@fanuc2013 Read your 10th Amendment - esp the last paragraph.
Trumps racist ass could care less about George Floyd this is just politics and a move made to try to win reelection
fanuc2013 · 51-55, F
@ExperienceDLT Do you know what a racist is? I seriously doubt it.
fanuc2013 · 51-55, F
@SimplyTracie you should be nominated for sainthood!
SimplyTracie · 26-30, F
@fanuc2013 I’m more like a coward than a saint. I’d more likely just cry.
His EO said and did nothing. It just said he "encouraged" local law enforcement agencies to review their practices.
SimplyTracie · 26-30, F
@fanuc2013 Hmmm, why is that I wonder? Lotsa people enjoy reading about others being insulted? Sometimes when a leader makes fun of others, people cheer. So weird.
fanuc2013 · 51-55, F
@SimplyTracie we've never had that before! Past presidents just let anyone hurl insults, make accusations, even if it was so outlandish it couldn't be true, and the accusers didn't have to worry about any repercussions. Now they're getting back a little of what they've sown, and a lot of people think it's about time!
SimplyTracie · 26-30, F
@fanuc2013 I don’t believe in retaliation. Maybe it’s because I’m just a coward and won’t punch back.

Or maybe there is wisdom in a quote:
Weak people retaliate
Strong people forgive
Smart people ignore.

One smart person responded when he was criticized by saying nothing and simply ignored their remarks. I know how that feels. People here would call me stupid and then block me. Like I care.
JohnOinger · 41-45, M
@SimplyTracie If You Became President & Entered The whitehouse When America Was in the Worst Shape What Would You Do To Improve it
fanuc2013 · 51-55, F
@SimplyTracie yes, he did have a gun. Now, all conservatives don't love Trump, but he is the best alternative at this point. I have hever heard of a conservative making threats like that. But, there probably have been some, there are mental cases on both sides.
SimplyTracie · 26-30, F
@fanuc2013 You’re right about those mental cases.

I’d have voted for Mitt Romney 2020
fanuc2013 · 51-55, F
@SimplyTracie I kind of liked Gabbard, but the good-ole-boy network would never let her get the nomination. Now Romney's father was our governor many years ago, and did a good job
Dominus · 31-35, M
I'm not familiar with the order. What I heard him say before was he was signing an executive order "recommending" that states follow guidelines he set forth. To his credit this is a move in the right direction but it will have no real teeth as the states and individual jurisdictions can reject it outright if they choose.
SimplyTracie · 26-30, F
@Dominus I would think an executive order would do more than just "recommending" something. I think an order would be more than a recommendation. No?
Dominus · 31-35, M
@SimplyTracie As far as I know typically yes because there's really no point in issuing an executive order that is a mere suggestion. However that is what Trump said whether or not he misspoke I do not know.

My thoughts were that by issuing the executive order he was hoping to quell some of the protests and outrage in the country.

Then if he were so inclined he could probably withhold some funding from states that did not abide by the order if it were issued. I do not think he will as I believe it was an attempt to make it appear as if he has taken action.
Dominus · 31-35, M
@fanuc2013 Congress may try to overturn an executive order by passing a bill that blocks it. But the president can veto that bill. Congress would then need to override that veto(two-thirds support in each chamber of congress) to pass the bill. Also, the Supreme Court can declare an executive order unconstitutional.
vetguy1991 · 51-55, M
Its actually not something a president should do
SimplyTracie · 26-30, F
@Dominus
and the staff at Brietbart, you know the media that's always attacking Trump.
You think they attack Trump? 🤔
It’s more likely they do this: 👇🏼
🤢😷
Dominus · 31-35, M
@SimplyTracie And Trump in turn does the same thing for Kim Jong Un, Duterte, Putin and Erdogan. 🤢 🤮
SimplyTracie · 26-30, F
@Dominus Probably. Because love ❤️
zonavar68 · 51-55, M
Trump is grandstanding - exactly like he always does.
zonavar68 · 51-55, M
@fanuc2013 Both major political forces (no different to here in Australia) get embedded in their own 'thinking circles' and can't step back to look at the bigger picture. The Liberal/republican party here in Australia has changed leaders multiples times just in the current term that Trump has been POTUS 45, and it severely erodes public trust when a key political party can't keep it's own house in order.
fanuc2013 · 51-55, F
@Dominus no?? Saying someone is a pathological liar is not a diagnosis?
Dominus · 31-35, M
@fanuc2013 No. If it were a diagnosis it would be called "mythomania." There, learned something, didn't you?
It is natural and necessary to be skeptical and vigilant about 'reforms.'

But it has to start somewhere, and it has to start now.
@SimplyTracie Oh, I think there are many. But we never talk about the good drivers on the road.
fanuc2013 · 51-55, F
@Mamapolo2016 absolutely! All we hear about is the failures, not the successes! The doom and gloom people always make the news.
@fanuc2013 Very true. However, in this case, it isn't very helpful to say "Not all police officers are racist killers."

It's true, but one is too many.
ThePerfectUsername · 70-79, M
Whatever he rushes through or begins is going to be so pathetically watered down it'll be kicked out anyway the minute the election results are announced. And THEN maybe we'll see something more in line with what the constitution intended all along, that old "all men are created equal" bit, remember that?
SimplyTracie · 26-30, F
@ThePerfectUsername I remember and agree. I wonder if cops must swear to uphold the US Constitution. Maybe it’s just for the military men and women.
I don't think it will result in any actual positive action or change.
Right now it's just talk from someone who seems to have disdain for anyone that isn't super rich and white.
SimplyTracie · 26-30, F
cherokeepatti · 61-69, F
Are you complaining?
Kwek00 · 41-45, M
@cherokeepatti He ran by saying

And now, we all have to be thankfull, because he's going to do something against something he promoted.

What a joke. 😂
SimplyTracie · 26-30, F
@cherokeepatti Should the President direct police operations at the state and county levels?
Dominus · 31-35, M
@SimplyTracie No. This president shouldn't direct any operations at any levels but the serious answer to your question is "no." Yet abiding by consistent guidelines put in place by a president is acceptable in my opinion. Such as 'Deadly force only when an imminent threat to another life exists.'
dommagic · M
I thought he’d already done that?
SimplyTracie · 26-30, F
@dommagic He did, after I posted this.
dommagic · M
I hope that didn’t come across as sarcasm, I seriously thought he’d already said he was doing it last week I think. I’m probably mistaken though @SimplyTracie
masaca · 61-69, M
trump just saying, "You guys stop being bad," isn't going to get it. If he was serious about police reform the very first thing he would do is do away with Qualified Immunity, and the atmosphere that supports it.

Anything other than that is nothing more than him playing lip service to try to look good to minorities.
Therifleman · 31-35, M
Political games could have done this week's ago
SimplyTracie · 26-30, F
@Therifleman Yeah but how does a country make hum realize that he isn’t respected very much by foreign leaders. He thinks y’all adore him.
Therifleman · 31-35, M
@SimplyTracie hahahaha he lives in wonderland! he thinks cause he says it makes it true. We had protests here to stop his visit when he did someone did this visible from his flight path
fanuc2013 · 51-55, F
@Therifleman are you allowed to have rifles in your country?
Pfuzylogic · M
He is not going to sign anything that changes anything. He will have studies conducted on whether police brutality is wrong and whether it should be stopped.

Kamala Harris and Cory Booker can teach dumpy what is up.

Van Jones, former Obama spokesman, praised Trump on the police reform order. A lot of critics say it's not enough, but it's a lot more than Obama did. Let's see hòw it goes, and maybe something might be added later if needed.
Dominus · 31-35, M
@fanuc2013
. . . but it's a lot more than Obama did. Let's see hòw it goes, and maybe something might be added later if needed
Trump's scrapping of Obama-era reforms hinders police reform

"Under Obama, 14 consent decrees were enforced upon troubled and discriminatory police agencies. By contrast, none have been issued in the more than three years of the Trump administration.

By scrapping the use of consent decrees, Trump has effectively made it much harder for the US to recover from the turmoil roiling the nation. In the absence of federal pressure, any reform impetus will have to come from cities and states acting in isolation or from inside police agencies that are likely to be resistant to change."

@TwiddlerofThumbs Although I’m not sure what Trump’s reform will look like, I would like to see the people from each county shape it instead of the federal government.

@TwiddlerofThumbs Why would a billionaire need to benefit himself?

@SimplyTracie I just looked at the EO briefly. I can now guarantee you that he didn't read it. His attention span isn't long enough to allow him to sit long enough to read complex material.

Let me guess, he is going to hire more cops and throw lots of money around.
