I mean you're still wishing that their work hours go well, that's a good sentiment.
Now, if say an airport employee tells you "have a nice flight" and you tell them "you too", THEN it's definitely cringeworthy.

@KingofPizza: i do that all the time when a restaurant employee tells me to "enjoy your meal".... you too
KingofPizza2 · 36-40, M
@Sarah123: Ha, yeah that one's even better. That one almost seems like mockery because you get to enjoy that delicious thing they carried over to you while they have to bring more of them to a bunch of other people instead.

@Sarah123: doing that all the time... dammit brain, stop being awkward

Yes you're thinking too much. I think I would appreciate someone wishing me a nice day.. it's the thought that counts.

Some of the best moments of my life were at work.

I usually respond, 'hope the rest of your day goes smoothly', or 'hope you're off work soon' or something anodyne but pertinent to being stuck at work

Sounds harmless and pleasant to me. If it doesn't to you, maybe there's a context we've not been told?

They're getting paid and work experience for "having a nice day", aren't they? 🤔
Luvbuttz · M
When they say "have a nice day" jus reply with "thank you" .

I like my job, so to say "you too" to me, is being polite.

I do. I can't really see it as a way of mocking them. at least it's no more mocking for them than it is to tell me to have a good one.

Lol, depends how much you or they liked/hated their job. I enjoyed my job before I left.

Being one of those people who has to be at work dealing with mostly cranky people I appreciate it when someone says something nice like that.

Not all days are miserable .
Some people might feel a bit glad with that "you too"

I generally say it first. They're probably having a shit day, and if someone shows a little concern for them as a human, that counts :-)
