If an employee tells you "have a nice day"...

... do you tell them "you too" ? i mean they are at work and propably have a bunch of more miserable hours ahead of them. feels kinda like mocking them to me

am i thinking to much into this ?

I usually respond, 'hope the rest of your day goes smoothly', or 'hope you're off work soon' or something anodyne but pertinent to being stuck at work
