I didn't think one who is not potty trained could go to school.
eli1601 · 70-79, M
@Spoiledbrat I think potty trained for 5 and 6 year olds is subject to interpretation.

I was in an all boys school so I didn't have a female teacher till I was 9 for Maths and what a sour curdled excuse for a human being she was.

7th grade. He was my first ever social studies teacher. I still remember that he taught us how to stop the hiccups! 🤣🤣🤣

First grade.
They sent these awesome new materials with the student teachers from Penn State, and one of them was our teacher, a man.
The new materials were exciting and so were the young teachers.

We had male teachers in grade school, all my teachers were female except the gym teacher was a dude.
eli1601 · 70-79, M
@BrewCityBarfly I didn't count gym teachers. We had roving gym teachers in 5th and 6th grades, one male, one female, and they went to all the schools in town and would alternate so we saw each one every two weeks.
The female teacher liked to walk into the boys locker room while we were showering after gym class to "hurry us along". We learned to shower very quickly.

@eli1601 Wow, that's surprising. We didn't have a locker room in my grade school, gym class was a few times a week, and we just wore street clothes. Wasn't until 7th grade middle school I first experienced the communal lockers and showers. Of course, our gym teacher was a dude, and the girls had a woman gym teacher.

Not until I was 14, but I went to a girls school.
Traditionally, primary education is seen as low status employment within a generally low status profession. I think that is why the teachers of younger children are mainly women.

Excellent question - had to think about this one. Probably Mr. Lawrence in grade 7. I forgot what he taught but he was like 112 yrs old and he wore two double-breasted 1940's gangster style suits. He wore the blue pinstriped one every day before Christmas then the brown pinstriped one til June. The most boring person I ever knew.

My early teachers were crabby old women brought back from retirement because the men were all at war. Later there were some shaky veterans rumored to be heroes, that I suspect had PSTD - "You know he was a rear gunner and the only survivor?" I wonder if any of it was true. A couple of them were skinny & frail with frequent nose bleeds.
