What grade were you in when you had your first male teacher?

7th grade for me. When I went to school (many years ago), there was an unwritten rule that teachers in the lower grades had to be women. It was because nobody wanted male teachers taking little girls to the bathroom.

Not until I was 14, but I went to a girls school.

Traditionally, primary education is seen as low status employment within a generally low status profession. I think that is why the teachers of younger children are mainly women.
