So was just diagnosed with a tumor in my throat

Idk what to do. Life just became worse for me. I started having throat problems about 2 months ago and ended up losing my voice several times. I finally got checked and was diagnosed with a tumor in my larynx. Idk where to even start. Do I just give up? Idk. have been crying all day but I guess there is no use in shedding anymore tears. so much for working on an album this year. I honestly thought this was gonna be my year. God I feel so stupid for trying to be positive and telling myself that things were somehow gonna magically get better.

So sorry to hear about your cancer and I hope your surgery goes well. Now, You say you're a singer but being realistic, it's possible that your singing career will be over or at the very least sidelined for a while. If you are at all musically inclined, you can still share your gift and love for music in other ways. You could write songs, lyrics, and/or play music if you can. Now is the time to think about changing direction in your life. Be strong, be positive, and keep going.

Are you eligible for Medicaid?
BlueVeins · 22-25
@alainc2490 To be honest, losing your voice sounds like getting off easy with cancer, even though it'd still be life-changing. When is the surgery?

@alainc2490 Well, they scheduled things nice and fast for you. I think you're in good hands at least. 💗
You are learning. Calm yourself. Have you no health insurance? What did the doctor say? Is it benign or malignant? You have to deal with that first. What did the doc say was the treatment? Choices? Gofundme. Sure. Make one. Then get your self together. Good thoughts. Positivity. When do you see the doc again? A lot to deal with. You have your young age on your side. Keep us updated. Talk to your support system too.
therighttothink50 · 56-60, M
Could it be benign and operable, hope things work out for you...
therighttothink50 · 56-60, M
So they won't know until they get in there and take it out and do a biopsy most likely?

Think positive and have hope. You can't be so negative when you don't know anything concrete right now.

The brain/mind are powerful, it's hard but try to believe in a positive outcome.

Prayers to you and your family, hang in there.@alainc2490

@therighttothink50 thank you.

Remember try and not to harp on negative thoughts.

I'm terribly sorry. But I read in a reply that they're saying it's a 50/50 chance. It's not clear-cut that you'll be okay, but those odds are still a lot better than most. There's a chance you'll pull through -- try to hold on to that as much as you can. Here's hoping for the best.
Lanie78 · 46-50, F
@Ducky Telling someone they've a 50% chance of dying isn't optimistic. Tact clearly isn't your strong point.
Ducky · 31-35, F
@Lanie78 I acknowledged the reality of the situation while also expressing there's hope to found. Which is a lot better than what you've done only criticizing me for my comment when you still haven't even posted your own. What nerve! How toxic does one have to be to go on a very serious post such as this one and not even bother to offer their condolences, but just adds more negativity by stirring up drama instead? Don't answer that and just be a decent human being and stop. Regardless, I have nothing else to say to you.
Lanie78 · 46-50, F
@Ducky A decent human being wouldn't mention death. The OP no doubt would already know the potential outcome of this diagnosis. You've a warped mind, thinking any of what you've commented is decent. Btw, I'm currently speaking with the OP in DM. To assume I've said nothing to him, is just plain ignorant. Enjoy your day now.
Get care and then file bankruptcy on whatever you're billed.

@Spoiledbrat ok thank you. Any information

Hospitals often have social worker types... did you talk to anyone like this? If they have one. they can help find options. If not, check with county or city health dept for possible ideas.

Also google nonprofits in your area for possible medical advice or assistance. Your state might also have assistance programs.
alainc2490 · 31-35, M
@Neoerectus no I have never been though this before. I haven't even considered any of this.
DragonFruit · 61-69, M
I wish the best for you.
A good friend of mine died from throat cancer a few years ago. His job had been to travel and
speak for Hilton Hotels. He lost his voice and eventually his life. 😪
DragonFruit · 61-69, M
@alainc2490 I wish you the best...hopefully your tumor will be benign.
I couldn’t help but reminisce about my longtime friend though. If that’s upsetting you too much, I could delete or amend my comment if you wish.
alainc2490 · 31-35, M
@DragonFruit no its ok. I only wish that I could help you feel somewhat better also.
DragonFruit · 61-69, M
@alainc2490 Thank you....I already feel somewhat better. ❤️ Don’t lose hope.

I had a laryngectomy March 2000. Unfortunately your normal voice will have to go, but there are alternatives. I speak through a valve implant in my throat and surprisingly I still have my accent. DO NOT GIVE UP. 3 years ago I was diagnosed with COPD. 1 year ago after getting the COVID booster jab I was hit with shingles, I'm an ex-British Army paratrooper, so these items were a nuisance for me. Go at it my friend. I am soon to be 79 and I won't give up. Good luck.
originnone · 61-69, M
I'm very sorry. It's always a good idea to talk with the providers who are often anxious to make sure you can pay to some extent. If you're criticizing the health care system, no one can reasonbly disagree with you. You should not have to worry about the money part ever.
alainc2490 · 31-35, M
@originnone @originnone I'm not criticizing. I'm terrified. I work and can barely support myself. I live alone.
originnone · 61-69, M
@alainc2490 I hear you, man. Life is not fun....
smileylovesgaming · 31-35, F
I would talk to the hospital about this
Slade · 56-60, M
Jesus that's awful. Prayers out 🙏
NudeAllTheTime · 41-45, M
Sorry you’re going through this.
calicuz · 56-60, M
Start by getting a second opinion, and go from there.
calicuz · 56-60, M
@alainc2490

Then you have begun your journey. Life throws the hardest troubles to the strongest people. Right now you should just focus on following all your doctor's orders and advice. If you have support through family and friends, begin to get them involved, you're going to need them to help you make decisions. I know you're scared, and that's natural. It's also natural to feel like life is over, but it's not. Take some time to process everything and then get started.
God's speed my friend, and good luck. Keep us posted if you'd like and if you have time.
alainc2490 · 31-35, M
@calicuz I don't have family or friends. I am currently estranged from my family because they kicked me out when I was 15 and have been on my own ever since. Basically working and surviving up until now.
calicuz · 56-60, M
@alainc2490

Well, choose a good hospital for your treatment and there should be support groups there, especially for people like yourself who have no family.
hippyjoe1955 · 61-69, M
I wish there was a magic phrase I could say that would make everything better.
alainc2490 · 31-35, M
@hippyjoe1955 thank you. I feel so broken honestly.
hippyjoe1955 · 61-69, M
@alainc2490 I know exactly what you mean. When you are facing such a crisis there are no words that calm what you are going through. Such a discovery is life shattering.
Jeephikelove · 51-55, F
Can they remove it? Without damaging your throat or voicebox?
alainc2490 · 31-35, M
@Jeephikelove nothing is guaranteed. Its a 50/50 chance.
Jeephikelove · 51-55, F
@alainc2490 honestly that’s pretty good odds considering. A friend of mine had cancer in her larynx and was told the surgery had a 10% success rate, she’s totally fine!
HeWhoWalks39 · 36-40, M
Dang man.. Sorry to hear that.. Hope your better soon 😞
alainc2490 · 31-35, M
@HeWhoWalks39 thank you.
TexChik · F
What type of tumor ?
alainc2490 · 31-35, M
@TexChik lymph and turns out it is malignant so it has to be removed. No if ands or buts about it. I'm just praying this isn't anymore of a nightmare. What sucks about it. Its that they are usually benign but of course mines had to be malignant. I'm so lucky.
TexChik · F
@alainc2490 I get it , I had to have my uterus removed after a bad test result . It is Un-nerving .
alainc2490 · 31-35, M
@TexChik I'm so sorry but I'm glad you are still here with us hopefully healthier. I wish you the the best and thanks for your concern.
redredred · M
Benign or malignant?
slowmarch · M
@redredred Malignant.

I am so sorry. I hope surgery goes well for you. I am not American so I can’t advise you on what to do insurance wise.
