Why is eating healthy so expensive??

You would think you'd get a break, beings you're trying to stay away from doctors rather than be on all sorts of meds for chloresterol, high blood pressure, obesity, etc. But it's the exact opposite. For what I just spent on healthy foods, I could have my entire pantry cram full of all the bad stuff ffs.

It depends on what you define as healthy foods and health generally. I mean frozen stuff is even expensive but I do frozen fruits and will buy in bulk if I can find it, cost co is good for that. Target also has some surprisingly good frozen section.

It's also if you want organic vs non organic but that's mostly a scam. You should look up chemophobia if that's the case, there's a good book on it by a chemist that tries to distill food myths.

We also got a trader Joe's and you can make 4 or 5 ingredient meals with that store too. There's an instagram by an author who lists all kinds of recipes under 5 ingredients or less with tons of ideas.

But when i ask what you define as healthy, for some oats are the devil and for others, not. I like meat still but can also do mock meats, tofu, beans, most legumes stuff like that.

@SatanBurger I don't eat meat & try to stay away from carbs so I stick to fruits, steamed veggies, basically things that don't have a ton of salt or sugars in them. I do love cheese & crackers though! And I live alone so I don't do alot of cooking anyway. Thank you for your input :)

I totally get where you’re coming from, it can feel that way, especially with all the overpriced health products out there. But eating healthy doesn’t have to be expensive at all. Simple foods like oats, beans, rice, frozen veggies, eggs, and fresh produce (especially in season) can go a long way and be really budget-friendly. You’re doing something good for yourself, and that’s what matters most. It just takes a little strategy. You’ve got this! 💪

I count my blessings that my husband, and sometimes eldest son provide all that we need for groceries! Lot's of fruit from watermelon, to cantalope to kiwi's and strawberries and grapes, and banana's to vegetables salads, aspeagus, potatoes, broccoli, corn on the cob, etc.... To Beef, steaks, prime rib, ribs, pork chops, chicken, full chickens, turkeys, eggs, pasta's, cassirolls, seafoods, snack foods, eggo waffles, cereals, oatmeal, ice cream, cookies, chips, chocolate, doughnuts, baked goodies, cakes, we have food glorious food, and can make just about anything...And for this I am so grateful, always have been!!! Praise God, may it bring nourishment to my family's bodies!

@saintsong It’s good that you can share this produce with your family and friends.

In Spain our cleaner provides us with cherimoya, black tomatoes, and other fresh vegetables for when we arrive. In return she asks for nothing, we lent her our car when hers broke down. We have given articles away, in return we get masses of vegetables, not requested, just left there. Spanish hospitality is renowned. I have grapes from my vine and an orange tree. In England, cherry tress, fruit bushes, and various herbs, and can grow vegetables that I choose.

Yet, I notice from your list you have produce that will raise your cholesterol, and cause problems later in life. Care too with your amount of red meat you consume. Yes, take care.

When even MILLIONAIRES say it's expensive for healthy food, it's TRUE. I remember Jason Statham saying in an interview for a movie years ago, he had to be very fit for fight scenes. He said 'I want to just eat a peanut butter and jelly. It's expensive eating healthy!' he had to eat veggies mostly.
That is not word for word but the essential quote. It's really absurd I think! 😟
Tumbleweed · F
@Coralmist It's ridiculous.
Coralmist · 41-45, F
@FreestyleArt Yes he's made millions on his movies over the years. Transporter, (3 films) and the The Expendables,( also three films) plus several more.
FreestyleArt · 36-40, M
@Coralmist I wasn't talking about his success. I was pointing out how he spends. Money can go quick these days now if reckless spending.
Because eating healthy you have to avoid all the processed stuff, and they sell the process and bad stuff because it's cheaper for them, and they're all about profits.

Also, I'm still trying to learn about "enriched" foods, as supposedly it was good for us (which is why they did it), but I'm seeing a lot of people suggesting it's actually bad, because of the added chemicals...

And supposedly eating pasta in Italy is so much different than eating pasta in USA because of the enrichment process and people feel better after Italy vs in the USA.

I’m diabetic, so a lot of foods will harm me. There are fancy expensive diabetic foods on the market. Ignore them.
It’s more expensive to make my own soup, but it does not have salt and additives. Bulk cheap fillers like bread and potatoes are out. Cheap processed meat is out, so I have to go for more expensive oily fish and white meat.

Exercise is a must. But I go for a run instead of joining a fancy gym.
luckranger71 · 51-55, M
Yep. I suppose some of it is due to the fact that fresh fruits and veggies have a shelf life unlike prepackaged stuff. But that doesn’t seem to explain all of the discrepancy.
FreestyleArt · 36-40, M
That's part of reality I hate too, but let's face it.

Greedy corporations takes over including most of the farms in the U.S......like Bill Gates for example.

We used to have foreigners buying up our farm land.

Although even since Trump took over, they were cracked down.

The only problem is, Corporations is still owning.

All are from the World Economic forum that hates people and wants control of everything.
Snagging an affordable haven in the outskirts of fabulous and cultivating your dreams, you feel? It's the ultimate vibe to thrive in today's world!

Clearly you are living in the wrong country.. Although, to be fair. Frozen fresh vegetables should be cheaply available everywhere. And are a really good alternative to work with..😷
HiYou12 · 51-55, MNew
It is an art forum, I’ve gotten quit good at it.
HiYou12 · 51-55, MNew
@Tumbleweed yep! God for you. Mine is low as well. I typically eat eggs, cheese and organic chicken sausage and avocado. Lean chicken or tuna patties and mix in salmon filets from time to time. But I saw you don’t eat meat, just stay away from those chemical bombs called imitation meat
Tumbleweed · F
@HiYou12 I don't eat meat, therefore, I don't do the whole mashed potatoes, rolls thing either. I also never use salt.
HiYou12 · 51-55, MNew
@Tumbleweed yeah, I avoid carbs too. Enjoy
i know...tell me about it...i know people who live off of mr.noodles or similar because it's so cheap. but that shit is really bad for you....but hey, it's cheaper than broccoli right?
Tumbleweed · F
@beermeplease I just spent $80 on fresh fruits & veggies, yogurt, etc & that was only two bags of food. Jeez.
OverTheHill · 61-69, M
