She asked me. I hardly even knew her. I was 15 and she 13.

You couldn't ask for a more odd of a match. And I still have no idea why she even asked. Mostly school dances. Yet a few times we had lunch together at school.

Lasted only for a few months when she mentioned her parents objected. I let it go at that.

Odd situation all around. Because I suspect her parents were wealthy and my parents most certainly wasn't. Absolutely gorgeous girl though.

Only reason I believe she picked me was because we were both in the school band. Totally different sections though.

@DeWayfarer I am sorry for your loss.
DeWayfarer · 61-69, M
@ProfessorPlum77 Long, long and many, many relationships ago.
ProfessorPlum77 · 70-79, MVIP
@DeWayfarer Yeah, but still ....

I was 24. We went to a steakhouse, the movies, then spent the night at a hotel.

I had been on dates before that but probably not "formal". That was my first one where I asked someone out that I didn't know yet & wasn't already in a relationship with. Our friends set up a barbecue for us to meet each other because they thought we'd hit it off & we did
ProfessorPlum77 · 70-79, MVIP
@ChiefJustWalks Did you end up getting married?
Vividly.

We were acquaintances, but It felt like we'd spent our lives together.
There was an ease and understanding that dominated our interactions, and a connection that couldn't ever be expressed in words.

It was the end of a school year.
Elegant, and poised; I was honored she chose to grace my humble presence.
At her side, I felt as though we were equals, and held my head up high.

The next line should describe a happy marriage to a beautiful bride.
Instead, fear held my tongue; and another found the words to tell her what I so desperately felt inside.
At the end of that second year she was engaged, and gone.

If there was ever a "one that got away", it was her.

@SethGreene531 Oh, wow! I am sorry! ☹
Thank you, I appreciate that.

My first formal date was HIS senor prom. I was a Junior at the time. 16 years old.I wore a long pink prom gown, and long white gloves, and had my hair put up. We even had my shoes specially dyed to match my dress. I am sorry to say that I don't even remember his name. I was so nervous and scared to be out with a boy! He isn't in my yearbook, because he graduated a year before I did. I don't have much memory of that night because it was NOT memorable. I don't think we even danced.

I THINK his name was Erik. Maybe.
ProfessorPlum77 · 70-79, MVIP
@4meAndyou I am sorry the night was a dud.
4meAndyou · F
@ProfessorPlum77 No big deal.
4meAndyou · F
@Thinkerbell I remember his name! Eric Kaplan.
FreddieUK · 70-79, M
I remember it well. I was 16. It was 'set up' by our crowd and she was expecting the call. I know she fancied me something rotten. I liked her, but no more than that. Anyway, the evening was a resounding failure as one of us didn't have their heart in it.

!0 years later, after her divorce, she tried again with me. It seems she wasn't good at choosing men. Lovely girl - so sad.
kwood1 · 61-69, M
@FreddieUK She never realised something was missing?
FreddieUK · 70-79, M
@kwood1 To this day, no.

I was 12. People had birthday parties at the golf club house, and I was supposed to ask a date. I got my older sister to help me write a script when I called Judy. She politely accepted, obviously using a script provided by her older sister. We weren't "sweethearts," but I knew she would say "yes" so I asked her to all the parties that year.
ProfessorPlum77 · 70-79, MVIP
@exexec How did it go?
exexec · 70-79, C
@ProfessorPlum77 Great! The boys sat on one side of the room, and the girls sat on the other until the moms made us dance. Then we boys managed to get out to the 18th fairway to play football until the moms caught us. Everybody had fun.
ProfessorPlum77 · 70-79, MVIP
@exexec Nice.

I was 16. We went to a Chinese restaurant, and I remember feeling so uncomfortable that he wanted to pull out my chair, pay for my food, etc. I wasn't used to someone being that nice to me. Lol

I remember calling a girl to ask her out. In my teenage years we actually went on dates, as a couple, not in mobs.
ProfessorPlum77 · 70-79, MVIP
@samueltyler2 We did, too.
samueltyler2 · 80-89, M
@ProfessorPlum77 we are fossils.
ProfessorPlum77 · 70-79, MVIP
@samueltyler2 That is true. 🤓
One of her girlfriends asked me to ask her out. We went to a highschool basketball playoff game in Altoona. On the way to the game in my parent's car, I got pulled over by PSP for speeding and got a ticket. 🤦🏻‍♂
