How old is the oldest building near you?

OldBrit · 61-69, M
Still in use or still visible?

In use as intended probably the cathedral place of worship from 600 and something. Current building dates back to at least early 12th century. There's a castle almost outside it's West Door and that is Norman too but no longer complete.

There are also a few Roman Villas and a small temple near by only the outlines of them.

A recent excavation about a mile from my house found evidence of an Iron Age settlement.

@MrAverage1965
Is the New Home warranty still valid on it?
MrAverage1965 · 61-69, M
@SandWitch I think it expired some time ago.

Parts of our parish church date back to the 12thC, although most of it was rebuilt in the 16thC. One of my neighbours lives in a house dating to the 1530s. Our own home is part of a building built in the 1820s.
HumanEarth · 56-60, F
My home was built in 1840s. It started out as a log home and was expanded from there over the past century

The original part of the log home is our living room

several old hollowed out log cabins and foundations from late 1600's to early 1700's. As far as still functioning/being used, the local Inn was built in 1892

My partners house dates back to 15th century. It has had extensions added, but the main part is very old and crooked.

Being I live alone on my farm there is only one building I think that is 52 years old, it is the farmhouse I live in presently.

The Romans built the first walls around Canterbury, Kent in England between 270 and 290 AD. Very little of these Roman walls remain, but large sections survive of the medieval walls that replaced the Roman structure. The medieval walls surrounded the entire city of Canterbury and were pierced by eight gates, West Gate, North Gate, Quenin Gate, Burgate, Newingate, Riding Gate, Worth Gate, and London Gate. Of these, only West Gate remains.

This is a fun question. I accepted your challenge and found this:

https://www.centervillewashingtonhistory.org/stone-buildings/walton-house

I drive right by there on a regular basis.(Stalkers, keep looking. You can't handle this.)
@SinlessOnslaught Triangulation in process, stand by....
SinlessOnslaught · 26-30, M
@Motzu Why do you need to triangulate my location when I literally just...

Ugh...

Nevermind, you can try to stalk me, I'm not threatened by this one.

Alnwick castle was built 11th century, famous for being the outside of Hogwarts in the Harry Potter films. The village I live was first built early 12th century
Jenny1234 · 51-55, F
All of the houses near me were built in the 70s

But if I go for a 10 minute walk to downtown then there are buildings that have been there for 150 200 years
exexec · 61-69, C
Less than 150 years old. Not many people lived down here until air conditioning was common. Hurricanes destroyed the older buildings.
Coralmist · 41-45, F
There is a house not far from me built in the mid 1600s.
DunningKruger · 61-69, M
The oldest building still in use was built in 1837, so 187 years old.
smiler2012 · 56-60
