As an American, I take comfort in knowing that other countries' news media can be crazy too.

An Australian news channel has apologized after broadcasting an edited picture of a female lawmaker that enlarged her breasts and exposed her midriff.

The digitally altered photograph of Victoria state lawmaker Georgie Purcell appeared in a 9News evening bulletin Monday after she criticized the local government for rejecting a ban on duck hunting.

“I endured a lot yesterday. But having my body and outfit photoshopped by a media outlet was not on my bingo card,” Purcell posted on X Tuesday, alongside the original and altered photos. [/quote]

@4meAndyou It's as if the news outlet were run by adolescents.
4meAndyou · F
@DrWatson For sure. And they probably ARE.

We have a show on the ABC channel called Media Watch, were they highlight all the gaffs like this.

good for her for calling out the media for that atrocity. i saw it in Britain on how they attacked Donald Trump. it was uncalled for. i wonder if they would like me criticizing their monarchy...me thinks not
SunshineGirl · 36-40, F
@akindheart Did they enhance Trump's breasts and expose his midriff? 🙄
whowasthatmaskedman · 70-79, M
@SunshineGirl Please! Not while I am eating!!!😷
akindheart · 61-69, F
@SunshineGirl did Joe forget to change his depends? or is that garbage coming out of his mouth another form of crap?

It’s a slow news day in Oz.

@whowasthatmaskedman Sounds like a trumpanzee before Trump was ever going to try and become El Presidente. Religious twats that let their religious convictions influence their decision making are bad regardless of which side of politics they come from.
Persephonee · 22-25, F
@zonavar68 Surely if one is a politician then one's religion (if any) SHOULD inform your decision-making. Sometimes politics involves moral choices and for people of religion, that can be a guidance. (And it's not the same thing as forcing one's views derived from religion on other people).
whowasthatmaskedman · 70-79, M
@Persephonee Indeed religion does inform political decision making in America. You really do need to watch a few Kenneth Copeland TV presentations for a primer on American Christianity.😷
zonavar68 · 51-55, M
We have the same mix of news doctrines here as does the UK.
It is very difficult to be objective. All media outlets are biased. And social media creates ethical norms. It too is manipulated.

I still read widely. But that is often guided by Amazon. Psychocontrol at its worst. I go into independent bookshops, browse old bookshops. The more big data does not know about me the better.

Some people rely on Wikipedia. Oh dear!
Picklebobble2 · 56-60, M
Just the latest sleaze in Australia's never ending circular two party political nonsense.

Every second this is an issue something important is being buried from public sight
whowasthatmaskedman · 70-79, M
@Picklebobble2 Well, inflations down, so thats good..😷
Picklebobble2 · 56-60, M
@whowasthatmaskedman inflation on it's own means nothing.
Prices still high ?
Who's profiteering while customers are still suffering ?
whowasthatmaskedman · 70-79, M
@Picklebobble2 I agree. But interst rates stabilizing is a good first step and some food pices are part of the Stabilizing inflation as well.😷
Piper · 61-69, F
The news channel's explanation...(excuse) was pretty lame, seems like.
whowasthatmaskedman · 70-79, M
I love this.. A unknown politician sees a chance to gewt way more publicity for herself than her political achievements warrant and grabs it..The alterations, while foolish in that they happened at all) were hardly racey..😷

as an american i take comfort that the USA is a laughing stock to the rest of the world, and that we are actively terrorists on the global stage at multiple times in world history!
Convivial · 26-30, F
That was pretty disgusting....
