well i was not a racist but i thank i am becoming one, why we trump voters have been called racitst for out vote for yrs now. guess why we left he sick democratic party.
@LoveKitty Lol, those Southern states are areas where people don’t want their children taught about U.S. history. I was downvoted and called a racist for my posted story about the "one-drop" rule, which was a reality in this country for a very long time, by custom and even law in some states.
The origin of term needs more attention than it actually gets and etymology is regrettably ignored way too often in our society and the manner in which people deal with and apply English.
the term was originally used to describe the old coal miners who went on strike in americas long and bloody history of the labor struggle.
The old strikes often turned violent they aren't like the modern version at all because the more tame tepid strikes we've experienced are hard fought and litigiated union rights that were won in bloodshed much like a lot of other rights- Freedom wasn't ultimately free, not at first at least. and the price was paid in blood.
Your right to strike was ultimately won in carnage and bloodshed and americas horror at the way the workers were treated and massacred.
The truth of the matter is that I've wanted to call them rednecks and make fun of them myself but then I gradually as a student of history started studying labor history and realized during the strikes I would have at least been in solidarity with the original "Rednecks."
I support labor rights and will not cross a picket line because of it. That stated am not ultimately a republican so of course I've wanted to throw perojatives at some of these hicks but my education is starting to get in the way. when you realize the term was originially used to insult people who you would have considered yourself an ally of.
today of course we don't use redneck the way it was originally intended. But it wouldn't be the first charged slur to be that way.
@BohemianBabe i have not found you being able to discriminate* in your descriptions of people you violently disagree with (but then you seem to violently disagree with anyone you disagree with; there are no qualifications). * in the proper meaning of the word.
There's some truth to it, but not all of 'em are like that. You'll find progressive rednecks if you look far and wide enough; I mean, not 100% of people who live out in the sticks are gonna be the same on any level. There's more truth to it with respect to Republicans, but even then there are some who are either naive to racism (possibly due to willful ignorance) or merely tolerate it in the interest of some other policy goal.
@Evegpt That's cool. I always appreciate a free thinker :) Our friend Corvus is unfortunately either a very good troll, or incredibly brainwashed by liberal propaganda.
Well, let's see. You have made the blanket statement that all liberals hate free thought. You have made the blanket statement that all liberals wish to censor free speech. And you continue to use blanket statements, without any self-awareness whatsoever.
@BohemianBabe I have no idea if they like Biden or prefer Trump or their televsion watching habits. I don't have TV so ..... I do know that most of the leftists in my circle of friends are very racist. They hate whites.
@graphite And yet somehow Biden managed to be a loyal VP to the first black president and chose the first black woman VP. Not something I’d ever have seen happening with the GOP.

My thought — that was someone very hard core leftist 🤔🤔🤔
Rednecks - People who live a rural/blue collar lifestyle, usually from the Southern USA.
Republicans - People who support the Republican Party and its values.
Racists - People who are averse to or discriminate against people of a race other than their own.
While there is certainly lots of overlap, correlation doesn’t imply causation. You can be one without being the other two, two without being the other one, all three, or none of the three. Personally I’m none of the three, but I have friends and family who are only one or two, and some who are all three.
@LamontCranston Here's what I know of your life choices. You sit there and twist people's words, and then argue with the bullshit version you've created, rather than argue with their actual point, because you recognize you can't argue with them. That's called a straw man. It's your go-to tactic, and it's messed up. And then when I call you on your shit, you don't even bother defending yourself. You just start calling me names.
@LordShadowfire After that tirade of yours, I see I was too kind. Every "point' of your is untrue. I will admit one thing, you are a premier insulter. The only s__t in our exchange came for you---the word and the excrement.
Definitely, where I come from, the word redneck has always meant a racist -- has never had any other meaning.
However, the word Republican doesn't necessarily equate with racism. Many conservatives and religious people believe that all humans have the right to be treated as equal. That said, a significant proportion of the hard-right tend to be white supremacists.
