@SW-User You are right on! He did hang himself.
Matthew 27:3-10
3Then Judas, which had betrayed him, when he saw that he was condemned, repented himself, and brought again the thirty pieces of silver to the chief priests and elders,
4Saying, I have sinned in that I have betrayed the innocent blood. And they said, What is that to us? see thou to that.
5And he cast down the pieces of silver in the temple, and departed, and went and hanged himself.
6And the chief priests took the silver pieces, and said, It is not lawful for to put them into the treasury, because it is the price of blood.

@TheOrionbeltseeker YOU ARE CORRECT.
"Falling headlong, he burst open in the middle and all his entrails gushed out."(Acts 1:18)
Here is further discussion from Matthew, verses 27:3-5?
He"hanged himself":"Then Judas, His betrayer, seeing that He had been condemned, was remorseful and brought back the thirty pieces of silver to the chief priests and elders, saying, “I have sinned by betraying innocent blood.” And they said, “What is that to us? You see to it!” Then he threw down the pieces of silver in the temple and departed, and went and hanged himself."
The fact that Judas fell"headlong"yet"burst open in the middle"(Acts 1:18) indicates that his body was bloated when he fell, which means that he was already dead. Judas hanged himself on a tree, and eventually the branch or the rope snapped, causing the described in Acts 1 above.

@LadyGrace The people left Judas hanging in the tree because they believed if a body hanged in a tree on the sabbath it was cursed.. The Jews did not want to touch the body of Judas.. So He hung in the tree until his body because decayed and lost it's ability to remain hanging.. That's why his body burst open when it finally fell to the ground.. The Bible even says that the 30 pieces of silver where given to the owner of the field to pay for it.. The 30 pieces where given to Judas for betraying Jesus and even though he threw it on the temple floor the high priests did not accept it and remain Judas property and so was used to purchase the field for Judas..

This is pure speculation because I wasn't there of course and the Bible doesn't give us any more details than that Judas was so sorrowful after he betrayed Jesus, that he went out and hung himself. How sad. He could not forgive himself, but it makes me wonder, since he was so grieved at what he did, if he did not ask Jesus to forgive him. I pray that he did. That seems like the logical thing Judas would do, given his obvious grief. We'll never know, but I believe with all my heart and soul that if Judas asked Jesus to forgive him, I'm sure Jesus did, because look how Jesus spoke of His own enemies, who nailed him to the cross. Jesus never hated anyone. There's only one thing that Jesus hates, and that is sin, because sin Keeps Us separated from God until we repent and ask for forgiveness. He is pure love. And from the cross, He looked up into heaven and said to His Father, "Father forgive them! For the know not what they do!"

Heaven is absolutely a place of peace and God cannot allow sin into His holy place or it wouldn't be heaven.
God wants to make heaven a place of peace, not a place of Chaos, not for God himself but so that his children over there don't live in turmoil.

@SW-User
The Bible says that Sin is Sin. God does not categorize sin like man does. God said sin is so horrible, because all sin, no matter what kind, keeps us seperated from God and heaven, until it is repented of.
John 3:16 - 17 -
[16] For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. [17] For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved.
When we go to Jesus and ask him to forgive us of our sins, and to be our Savior, he forgives us of our sins, completely wipes them out, and remembers them no more. Then we are fit to enter His holy heaven.
Say for example sake, let's say that someone brutally murdered a person, then was caught and thrown in jail, then went to trial and got the death penalty for his crime. We would say the Judge would be "just" to issue the death penalty. This is why we have laws. They are necessary. We wouldn't blame the Judge nor judge him or call him a monster. Justice demands to be served. And if that man had brutally murdered one of our family, we would be more than willing to see Justice served.
Just as there are man-made laws here on earth, there are also "spiritual" laws that must be kept. We have a soul that must be protected because while our body dies, our spirit lives on forever and where it ends up at, is up to us.
Now look at Jesus. God is always fair and just....SIN, however, is not! Satan is the author of sin and destruction.
Jesus was an innocent man who died so that we wouldn't have to pay the death penalty for our sins because he covered our sins and paid for them by his blood, on the cross. He didn't have to, but he did because he loves us and wanted to save us from hell because that is the death penalty for sin, in the spiritual world. He took our place and paid our sin debt because he knew that we could not save ourselves. It took a pure and sinless sacrifice to pay for our sins and Jesus volunteered. Was it's fair to Jesus that he pay for our sins?
In the spiritual world, sin is hated so much by God, (sin, not people) because sin (not God), always brings death with it and keeps us out of heaven, until we ask Jesus to save us. What can wash away our sins? Nothing but the blood of Jesus.
Now, you might say, well that's all fine and dandy, but I am not a murderer. I am a good person! And I imagine you are a good person, but we are all in the same spiritual boat....in need of Jesus to save us from the condemnation that sin placed on us. Salvation is never determined by how good a person is. The point is, in the spiritual world, no matter what type of sin it is, it is not categorized, because all sin Keeps Us From Heaven until we repent and then this brings us into right standing and back into the right fellowship with our Father in Heaven. So no matter what the sin is, the point is, that we cannot drag our sins into a holy heaven, or it wouldn't be heaven. Jesus loves US, but hates sin because it's separates us from Him, who loves us and created us. God did not create evil. Evil was found in man. That is our nature. That needs to be remedied, and Jesus is the only one that can do that. All we have to do is go to Jesus in prayer and ask him to forgive us of our sins and invite him into our hearts and lives as our Savior, and he will do that as promised. He turns no one away. If Jesus didn't love us more than words could ever say, He never would have come to pay for our sins and suffer such a horrible death on the cross, just so we could have heaven for eternity. If it hadn't been for jesus, we would have all been destined for hell. And, God did not create hell for people. But when they sinned, their sins brought condemnation to their soul. And if people do nothing to protect their soul and prepare it for heaven, the Bible says that sin will keep them separated from God. So that's why we need Jesus, so he can save us and make sure we make heaven. Nobody loves us more than Jesus and he proved that on the cross.
Why would he create a place like hell if he didn't expect anyone to die? Especially being a God of love. It doesn't make sense to me.

I believe that Judas went to heaven. Yes, he betrayed Christ, but that was his purpose. It was known by God that he would do it. Not that it was the right thing to do, but it had to be done nevertheless. Judas did believe in God and Judas did believe that Jesus was the son of God, but we all sin and being sinful doesn't necessarily make you an evil person or deny you a place in heaven.
Peter also denied Christ three times, so would he also be having the same afterlife fate as Judas? Their sins were forgiven.

@LadyGrace At the Last Supper, Christ knew that Judas would betray him. Christ even told Judas to "go and do what ye must do." Judas was actually responsible for setting the stage for the entire crucifixion.
If not for Judas, who else would have led the Romans to Christ's location? Bottom line, if not for Judas, Christ may not have ever been crucified and prophecy would not have been fulfilled.

@IM5688 Exactly. The whole purpose was to provide man and escape from his sins, by the sacrificial atonement of our sins by Christ. God saw it all from the beginning and loved us enough to make provision so we could have heaven. That's pure love because Jesus gave all, his very life!

Hell. If sister Mary Joseph was correct. Two reasons,1 suicide is self murder and you can't repent if you are dead hmmm
2.Sister Mary Joseph had an interesting angle on this one, her belief that Judas' 'mortal sin was despair. He killed himself because he thought he committed a sin that God could not forgive. To her and me for a long time to think or believe God could not do something to doubt or deny his power is a great sin I guess. Can God make a square circle? Her answer was God does not deal with contridiction. It's not a question of can he or not, don't ask because he doesn't. She was emphatic that contridiction were non questions. I thought she was a little over the top on her faith, she gave all to her Creator. I once suggested to her that I thought God needed us. One of those kids that like to mess with aggravating. When I said that I swear I thought the blood drained from her face. How could I suggest God needed anything. Like it was blasphemy. And she jumped me a bit but stood firm with a nervous smile that let me know I made her think. It just so happened what a coincidence that very Sunday the Catholic Church's weekly publication "The Record" had an article in the middle w with bold headlines titled "God Needs Us" 🤚 swear to God. Too her this was humbling but a miracle. Without any ado Monday morning (we had this discussion that past Friday) she called me up to the front of the class had the paper opened to that story and told me to read it to the class. I was in the eighth grade. I was like goddamn to myself I just looked at her she smiled barely noticable but very kind and said said read it to the class please. So I did and, handed it back to her, sat down and we started our week. And that was that.Crazy huh?

1. We're not supposed to rely on Sister Mary Joseph.... it's what God says that counts. If you're talking about Jesus's mother, Mary, she can't say anything, she's dead.
2. You think there's nobody in this world who hasn't asked God to forgive them before they killed themselves? Come on.
1. Since when, is Sister Mary Joseph a mind reader? For her to suggest that judas' "mortal sin" was despair and that he killed himself because he supposedly thought he committed a sin that God could not forgive, is not only presumptuous of her, but very judgmental. Only GOD knows and understands the mentality of the suicidal.
For one thing, Judas was one of the 12 disciples and if anyone knew that Jesus forgives, it would be him! Who can say that he was not so grieved and distraught at what he did to his Lord, that he lost his mind and could not even think straight, so he hanged himself in despair! There could be other reasons, but the Bible does not list them and it is terribly judgmental to assume we know where Judas ended up. Jesus said in His Word that any who asks for forgiveness with a contrite heart, shall be saved. If anyone had a contrite heart, it shows in Judas, or he would NOT have hung himself. Do we know what Judas said to himself or to the Lord, before he hanged himself? Absolutely not.
We already know that Judas accepted Jesus as his Savior and that's why he was one of Jesus's chosen disciples. Do you think just because he killed himself, that nullified his salvation? I don't believe so, because when a person is saved, they receive the Seal of God in their heart, which is the Holy Spirit of promise and God never breaks a promise! God doesn't go back on His promise, when we make mistakes and snatch His Spirit back from the believer! He's not a liar, He keeps His promise to save us, as we invite him into our hearts and lives to be our Savior.
The concepts of mortal and venial sin are essentially Roman Catholic. The concepts of mortal and venial sin, is problematic, at best: these concepts present an unbiblical picture of how God views sin. The fact is, that all of us sin (Romans 3:23) and that the just compensation for sin, is eternal death (Romans 6:23). Over and against the concepts of mortal and venial sin, the Bible does not state that some sins are worthy of eternal death, whereas others are not! All sins are mortal sins in that even one sin makes the offender worthy of eternal separation from God. But the good news is, that once one invites Jesus into their heart and life as Savior, then SIN has no more pull nor condemnation over us!!
"Therefore, there is now NO CONDEMNATION for those who are in Christ Jesus, becausethrough Christ Jesus the law of the Spirit who gives life has set you free from the law of sin and death." Romans 8:1-4
While God does not want us to harm or kill ourselves, killing yourself is most grievable, because it cuts short the gift of life that God gave us, but even more, prevents us from the opportunity to ever change our minds and accept Jesus as our Savior, later on, if we so choose....thus, allows our sins to keep us separated from God forever.
Based on the above biblical truths, the concepts of mortal and venial sin are not biblical, and should be rejected. In Christ’s death, burial and resurrection, the problem of our sin is completely taken care of, and we need look no further than that amazing demonstration of God’s love for us. Our forgiveness and right standing with God is not dependent upon us, our failings, or our faithfulness. They are solely dependent on the promises of God to save us and keep us. The true believer is to fix his eyes on Jesus and live in light of all that He accomplished on our behalf. God’s love and grace are truly amazing! May we live in light of the life we have in Christ! Through the power of the Holy Spirit, may we be victorious over all sin, whether “mortal,” “venial,” intentional, or unintentional.

@BritishFailedAesthetic Who is John MacArthur to judge? We don't know for sure that before he killed himself, he repented and asked God to forgive him.
@LadyGrace Sure, but there is no indication of this.
Suicide is not a great look for the state of your soul and the language indicates all he had was guilt, not godly repentance.
Please do not misread this as to thinking that I think people who commit suicide are unsaved if they are proffesing Christians.

@BritishFailedAesthetic no I don't think of it that way. I know you're not saying that.
But I feel just because there's no indication of that, that doesn't mean the man didn't repent either. We can't judge that and we'll not know that until we get to heaven. But when people are so grieved over what they have done, that doesn't mean the man didn't have any guilt and in fact it proves just the opposite because if he didn't have any guilt about it, he wouldn't have been so desperate to kill himself. No one was after him. A contrite heart would do such a thing if they are so sorrowful.

I love how we can discuss these important issues and I love seeing different opinions, like yourself. Thank you so much for that, brother.
I would like to mention one thing and that is that angels can absolutely sin because the Bible says they have free will, just like we do, and that's why Lucifer chose to rebel against God and try to take over heaven. And that is what caused his fall along with all the other angels that he coerced into believing his lies that their lives could be so much better if they took over the kingdom of God. They believed his lies. Can you just imagine how Satan probably used the same lie that he used in the Garden of Eden, that Adam and Eve could be like God, if they would listen to, and follow him, Satan. Satan always makes lies appear to be not that big of a deal and fun! So much so, that people and angels don't even worry about the consequences nor think of them.
According to scripture, I believe that anyone can be forgiven, the question is, if they want to be forgiven, but as you mentioned, Satan does not want to be forgiven and so he will never be forgiven. He had a chance and he blew it and he's not even wanting to change his mind and repent. He's so wrapped up in Pride and ego in himself, the only thing he's worried about is snatching Souls from the Lord as he knows this is the most damaging Revenge he could get and he's only out to hurt the Lord as bad as he can. That is the one thing that Grieves the Lord's heart the most, is to lose Souls.
So man can feel bad later on and regret his actionsand ask God for forgiveness and receive it but angels are so far advanced than man that they they don't sin they rebel against God and that's why Satan will never be forgiven.

@LadyGrace with the angels, and I just recently got into it that the angels are so far in advance of humans plus living in such close proximity to the Creator they know what their job is and that's to praise God and help humans praise God that's all and being so advanced when they sin, it's more of a rebellion to God they know more so about what they are about to do when they sin. At man's levels he's allowed to feel bad and have a change of heart repent etc but not Angels they are too intelligent and advanced, (they've been around almost forever literally) and they know all they do is doing praises and joy to God in return they get to live with God in heaven forever more. I got a little redundant there in not saying I'm exactly right just another way I suppose to look at it. Satan will Lucifer was perfect at one time as the story goes but not quite God,beautiful in appearance and acknowledged by all the other angels. But somewhere along the lines he wants to be worshiped like God and be as powerful.. butt he got pride or something and Lucifer became Satan and his good looks stayed behind too. I'm going to stop here before I get another run on sentence repeating myself.
Good answer by you above we're in the ball park with our beliefs. Or understanding, excuse me I have to say you are far more advanced than I am. I went to a church school for 10.5 years and pretty much has religion class everyday. I've sent many a Moonie or witness on their way. And anything in between long ago. I have fallen away from church long ago I got to minimalize my beliefs. Never evangelized but maybe it's my age but I want to get back to the church. And I will go back to what I'm used to. Even though I consider myself progressive. I probably believe the Constitution separation of church and state is acceptable to God. Render unto Caesar his and unto God what is God's . Some will argue with me but I believe I can be anti abortion and stand up for freedom of choice. That for another day perhaps

@kentex35 I've got a headache but I'll read the rest later. I love seeing what you have to say and your thoughts.
The angels and us are the same as far as God giving us and them a free will and that means choice. They still have choice and they know evil yes but they can also choose evil if that's what they want to do. Obviously they can be tempted by Lucifer and were. That hasn't changed, and the significance of looking at the whole picture is that there is no evil in heaven and people get that mixed up, and I don't mean you. God never created evil. The Bible never said Satan is perfect. There's not one verse that I know of that says Lucifer was perfect. It did say he was the most beautiful angel in heaven, as you have said, but here's where the evil part comes in. The Bible says that God never created evil, but evil was found in Satan's heart! In other words he chose to be evil.

He didn't murder Jesus himself so that's nothing major. A lot of people get betrayed. Suicide certainly isn't going to do anyone any good. I would imagine he was reborn as a snake or as a rat who gets eaten by a snake. Thousands of times over thousands of years.

@TheOrionbeltseekerThe Judas character is a hero because his actions resulted in the creation of a Jewish zombie that billions of people have worshiped because they think the zombie will give them eternal life.

It is highly doubtful if a man is hanging by his neck from a treelimb and the rope broke that he would do a flip and land on his head.
@JamesTiberiusTroll You probably are short on it too. Why don't you read it as
he hung himself to the tree, due to his weight, the rope broke apart. He fell headlong. His body burst open and his intestines spilled out.
