I think Peter denied Jesus three times because God moved him to do so in order that he might survive to be a powerful church father.

God does not control our behaviors. He tries to influence us, and he warns us. Why did Peter deny Jesus three times? It was to prove that Jesus knew the future, to prove he is God's Son. He did and said what he said for one reason, to show he is a loving God who cares about us.

He told so many prophesies, and did so many miracles, and raised people from the dead, and himself too. The only thing he did not know when he was down here was the day he would come back. But he told us the signs of the last generation and he said that it would happen when the gospel had reached the whole world. So we know he told the truth.

@Carazaa And naturally, you are saying Jesus knew the future, once again putting Him as a God on earth rather than as a human.
Carazaa · F
@Zeusdelight God expects us to behave. He didn't just deny Jesus as God's Son. He denied that he was one of Jesus apostle, he lied! 🤨

@Carazaa Two questions, two answers not responding directly to the questions. Bye for now.

Speculations about fictional characters. All predictions and prophecies made in the bible are fulfilled only in that book. It all reads like ancient mythology.

@BlueSkyKing Haven't read it hey?
@BlueSkyKing The bible is ancient mythology.

According to the fairy tale, all liars will be barred from the golden cube. Peter was a proven liar so how can he sit on a throne and judge one of the twelve tribes of Israel and be rewarded as a faithful servant? He violated the First Commandment.
Eternity · 26-30, M
Yeah. "God" told him to save his own ass lol.

Let's go with that
@Eternity

And later be executed for not saving his own ass after he spread the good news far and wide.

i think jesus knew peter was weak and cowardly by nature, and he knew judas was a shit, so more like instinct then prophesy
@itsoeasy If Judas hadn't turned Jesus in, he wouldn't have been executed and the whole house of cards would have collapsed. Christians should be grateful Judas was an upstanding, law abiding citizen.

its a parable to explain that everybody can be a coward at times

@itsoeasy The Peter story illustrates that people are less inclined to believe what they have been a part of than people who have just heard about the story from multiple sources years or even centuries later.

For example, Peter supposedly spent years tagging along after the Jesus character, He had an intimate experience with him and even took a couple of steps on water. But when it came time for him to stand up he wimped out.

On the other hand, people who became Christians just from hearing about it would eagerly face all kinds of gruesome deaths in the arenas. They were completely clueless about who the Jesus and Peter characters were, or even if they had existed. But they believed rather than renounce their beliefs.

So, here it is 2,000 years later and people still accept the story as real although it is comparable to all of the other ancient fairy tales = no legitimate proof. It's just a nice myth and, if the characters and events did happen, they have more faith than the characters had when they witnessed the events with their own senses.
@Diotrephes

Interesting take.
SubstantialKick · 31-35, M
He didn't want to suffer the same fate as his mentor.
@SubstantialKick

But he was so devoted and then later was indeed executed for refusing to deny Jesus.
Diotrephes · 70-79, M
@Pikachu Was that in the local newspaper?
