Does anyone have old military pictures? I have some of my dads from Italy WWII

I have been looking for family members whose dad or Grandfather may have
been in the 88th Infantry in Italy. I have a slew of pictures, and they have
names on the back. I would love to give some to family members
I received a 2 scrap books after dad passed in 2008. They have every letter he
wrote to his mom, along with newspaper clippings, military papers,
and the photos.

My paternal great grandfather. He was Scottish and emigrated to Australia. Served in WWI. I don't know what the medals and pins represent.

@DearAmbellina2113 Very Cool, not many people have those old pics. My grandpa on
my mothers side was in France in WWI
akindheart · 61-69, F
My dad was in WWII but he was in the Battle of Bataan and luzon.

akindheart · 61-69, F
@DogMan what a heart wrenching story. my dad never talked about it. ever. we had to do the research on his unit. he did not march in Bataan but he was one of the avengers.
DogMan · 61-69, M
@akindheart Do you have any brothers that try talking to him about it? I know dad
never talked about it to my sister, or mom. I pressed him. That is why I didn't get the scrap
books with all his letters until after he passed away. He knew I would want to talk about
it all.
akindheart · 61-69, F
@DogMan i was 1 when he passed and i was the oldest so unfortunately no. They were too young
HannibalAteMeOut · 22-25, F
The one and only picture of my great grandfather was in his uniform, but I don't have it myself. He died in 1941 on the Albanian front fighting against the fascist army.
cherokeepatti · 61-69, F
@HannibalAteMeOut have seen a movie about that era in Albania. I don’t remember the title though.
HannibalAteMeOut · 22-25, F
@cherokeepatti I'd like to watch it. I'm Greek but during the war with Italy they would send soldiers in Albania because it was occupied by the fascists and they were invading from there. And in the south of Albania the greek army liberated some greek speaking populations and that's where he was buried (if he was).
Only my own from back in 1980

Awesome. I have my letters and pictures from my service years, and my late sons. Priceless to me.
My greatgrandfather fought in the pacific war he's a filipino he killed hundreds of japanese with his m1 garand and .30 caliber machine gun
cherokeepatti · 61-69, F
@SigmaWolf Heard my father say the same thing. He was in the Pacific theater and in several places.
@DogMan he survived the war and became a farmer after the war they didnt have to worry about a japanese armor at the time as the japs did not focus on armored warfare due to lack of resources and rather invest on their airforces and navy, the tiger tank was a serious threat at the time but in the east the shermans was feared by japs as they lack armor
DogMan · 61-69, M
@SigmaWolf Fun fact. The John Deere tractor factory where my dad worked before he was drafted,
retooled and made tanks throughout the war. Dad went back after the war and retired after
42 years in the factory.

Yes but not that many and my father has them. Oldest is WW1...2 brothers sent to war and died a month of each other. France, Verdun.
DogMan · 61-69, M
My dad is in the back row without a helmet. That was his squad.
Sgt. "Big Stan" Grodecki on the right was their squad leader

The Blue Devils
DogMan · 61-69, M
@val70 Is that where you live now?
val70 · 51-55
@DogMan Still in Belgium. I feel sorry for those in today's army. There's so little to go around, and nowadays they also send it to Ukraine
DogMan · 61-69, M
@val70 Nice! I have always wanted to go to Europe. Maybe when I retire.
I got stationed at Nellis Air Force base in 1977, which is in Beautiful Las Vegas Nevada.
I try to stay away from the strip and the crowds though. I built a vacation house in
Southern Utah a few years ago, it is a fantastic location, beautiful place. I go there
mostly in the summer to get out of the brutal heat. I can't take the 100 + temps
cherokeepatti · 61-69, F
I have a photo of my grandfather wearing his uniform in Europe during WW2 as a dough boy. Damn he was a fine looking young man
DogMan · 61-69, M
@cherokeepatti Yeah, some of the units did wear the old WWI doughboy uniforms and helmets
at the beginning of the war. My dad included. My dad was in a draftee division. He was on the front
lines, but they didn't get the good stuff. No sleeping bags, No winter gear or boots. Probably
why he got trench foot.
cherokeepatti · 61-69, F
@DogMan What were those legging things called that they wore that looked like wrapped bandages? My grandfather was wearing those in the photo
DogMan · 61-69, M
@cherokeepatti LOL, they were called....."Leggings" you got it right!
CorvusBlackthorne · 100+, M
Which ones are your fathers?
DogMan · 61-69, M
@CorvusBlackthorne My Dad is in the back row, without helmet.
Somewhere in the mountains of Italy
