The Blue Devils

@val70 Yes, The Blue Devils. That is what the Germans called my dad's unit. Because of the blue
cloverleaf patch, ( actually two crossed 8's ) Check out the Battle of Mt. Battaglia.
My Dad's regiment received a distinguished unit citation. They took the mountain
and defended it for a week. 50% casualties.
350th regiment against two German divisions. I read the battle field narratives that
were declassified in 2001.

@val70 True, Plus the 88th inf was a draftee division. My dad tried to enlist in the Army Air Corp
but was denied due to being color blind, while he was trying to figure out what to do, he got
drafted. He was getting ready to join the Navy with his friend. Have you read about the 5
Sullivan bros? they were all together on a war ship that went down early in WWII. They were
from our hometown of Waterloo Iowa, my dad went to school with the youngest brother.
There is a really nice WWII museum in Waterloo, I donated some of my dad's stuff and
grandpas WWI stuff that I had. I also sent some stuff to the WWII museum in Florence Italy.

@val70 Nice! I have always wanted to go to Europe. Maybe when I retire.
I got stationed at Nellis Air Force base in 1977, which is in Beautiful Las Vegas Nevada.
I try to stay away from the strip and the crowds though. I built a vacation house in
Southern Utah a few years ago, it is a fantastic location, beautiful place. I go there
mostly in the summer to get out of the brutal heat. I can't take the 100 + temps
