I finally photographed this bird after months of trying

I originally thought is was a Barred Cuckoo Shrike but changed my mind.
Barred Cuckoo Shrikes have a yellow ring around their eyes. This one does not.
So further investigation leads me to believe this is a juvenile female Cicada Bird.

Is it S E Asia?
Asian Emerald Cuckoo-Chrysococcyx maculatus is likely.
Im 99% its NOT a Cicadabird.
Folks if you are posting bird photos it helps if you can put the region too.

Well done. What equipment did you use?

Emerald Cuckoo?I think its certainly a Cuckoo,its eating a large caterpillar.
Also see its feet.Two toes pointing forward,like Owls and Woodpeckers.
You might be confusing with Cuckoo-Shrikes which are not related to Cuckoos.
Where was this taken?

@wonkywinky Perth Western Australia.
On reflection I agree it is not a Cicada Bird.
Might be a Shining Bronze Cuckoo.

Interesting stripes

@Mindful They do make the bird take the eye of observers. 🙂

We have some migrant birds called Mississippi kites that go to town on cicadas as soon as they hatch out and start their loud buzzing. I just love those birds. I think they eat June bugs till the cicadas hatch out.
