Do you think AI is hyped up too much...

Or are we on the edge of a world changing technology that will quickly become smarter than us and enslave us for all eternity?
Ynotisay · M
That's the big question mark. There will be big benefits in some sectors. Healthcare being one. And it will also totally disrupt some and result in huge job losses. Like manufacturing.
I don't believe it will make us smarter though. The internet hasn't.
But what I know for sure is if regulation doesn't come quickly and clearly, a cat could get out of the bag and we would be playing catch up.
As far as the future a WHOLE lot of people involved in the creation and execution of AI have no idea what's going to happen with the technology. That's not a confidence builder.

I think we're on the cusp of some crazy world-changing stuff.
@DDonde same.

@DDonde thats what i think as well. Im just hoping its a good change.

Yes drones on phones don’t know what will hit them. Medical tyranny and AI are combining forces along with geoengineering, open borders and leftist woke politics to destroy the US middle class and humans in general.

Goog!es AI couldnt come up with photos of white people. Garbage in, garbage out.

Saying that, the almost autonomous kill drones are pretty worrying.....alongside the facial recognition/spying tech. Tools of control.

I'm bi expert but I get the impression the current version is just a glorified search engine that can cobble the results together... And also invent some results along the way.

there's no difference for you

you'll never see a real global ai work

so you will continue to believe that you are acting of your own free will
ViciDraco · 36-40, M
Some of both. I think some people are overestimating the speed at which AI will continue to improve. I think we'll see a couple more exponential increases and then a leveling out.

But I also believe the naysayers overestimate the complexity of what is required to replicate actual thought processes and the people who say AI will never be able to think like humans are overestimating human intelligence.

Favorite quote today. 😂

It's already changing the world now before it is even sentient enough to exterminate humanity through more direct means. Along with mining of bitcoin, AI already has a drastic impact on energy grids, water supplies, the environment and climate change:

https://www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2024/mar/02/ais-craving-for-data-is-matched-only-by-a-runaway-thirst-for-water-and-energy

Moreover, it's essentially unregulated, and the people primarily in control of it are profit-seeking billionaires who historically as a class have never had humanity's best interests at heart.

Assuming humanity could make quantum leaps in energy technology with fusion in the next few years, and could magically prevent AI from gaining sentience and doing what it wants, our societal structures and economic systems are in no way prepared for a civilization with no need of human employees with income or paying into taxation systems, and no restrictions on procreation increasing the world population ever further, and increasing a vicious circle of yet more unemployed masses and fewer people funding taxation due to a lack of income sources in a mainly capitalist-oriented world. We're already six billion people over historical maximums today, and unfettered procreation is considered a basic human right even though overpopulation is very much unsustainable.
I very much doubt it's going to get much smarter without our help.

@LordShadowfire unfortunately, there are people out there doing just that. Seems like a race to see who can make it do more and more. Im not sure i trust others enough to know when enough is enough.

Ai will just make us lazier 🤷🏾‍♂️
