I'm an old chook, 66, dried up - but certainly not grumpy.
My old rooster and I have barely enough to get by without getting into debt.
We budget and manage well enough to not to have to worry.
Too late for what?
We're enjoying our retirement - lead a full life, enjoy our friends, hobbies, work in the community and work on the land.
We're both healthy and can reasonably expect another 20 or 30 years of a very good life.

Age flips the script. Men struggle in their youth, women struggle when they've aged out. They do become bitter. I had a conversation with one of the "don't need no man" types. Of course she blocked me because I have the extreme view that men and women need each other. At any rate, age turns women into incels.
