China Invasion of Taiwan (CCP vs Republic of China), will it start World War 3?

Taiwan logistically is an independent state of the original Republic of China, that was founded after the fall of the Qing Dynasty. Communists seized mainland China following the first and second Sino-Japanese wars which weakened the Qing Dynasty (First), and ROC (Second). The fall of the Qing Dynasty happened in 1912, between the two Sino wars.
Xi's ultimate goal is to restore China to it's borders of the height of the Qing Dynasty, which included Taiwan.
Taiwan enjoys traditional Chinese culture blended with modern infrastructure and conveniences.
The "One China Policy" was an effort to satisfy the CCP, while still allowing Taiwan to exist in some autonomy.
Per usual, nothing is ever good enough for communists, and they always want more.
If China were to invade Taiwan to annex it, would we expect WW3 to break out?

I think Taiwan is screwed.
Biden has abandoned every ally and citizen in trouble since taking office.
I don't see him changing his MO now.
Of course the rest of the world doesn't need the US to fight - but I would be surprised if they did.
ShadowWolf · 31-35, M
@Budwick If Biden were smart, he would do what we did at the beginning of World War 2, which is just produce and sell to foreign warring nations to inflate our GDP. That would kickstart our economy in full force and provide an incredible amount of manufacturing jobs. But he's not smart. He's a puppet.
helenS · 36-40, F
@ShadowWolf Actually, isn't he exactly doing that, when it's about ukraine?
BlueVeins · 22-25
The US would almost certainly go to war with the PRC. Very hard to say if it would escalate into a world war.
FreestyleArt · 31-35, M
Well China needs to worry about the Quad as some Nations recognize Taiwan is a Nationalist State. Even though Joe Biden and a New Puppet in the Philippines will do nothing but Japan. India and maybe....maybe Australia will recognize Taiwan as well.

Plus Taiwan is the main source for chips. Just imagine China completely takes over it. They would have the world Begging for China's New policy for Chips...for the Globalists.
ShadowWolf · 31-35, M
@FreestyleArt And any new chips manufactured if China takes over may have circuitry to spy. There were motherboards manufactured in China for super micro that had this happen. I trust Taiwanese chips and boards. Chinese boards are just asking for trouble.

Very good question
I think Quite Possibly...
Though...
The Excuse would be in defending/helping Taiwan
Yet in Reality..keeping china from expanding
And
Especially in keeping south china sea open

China is trying to take over too much
And in doing so..
Enforce their Policies upon the full globe

Though
China is in no position to handle a war with usa
Especially with a furyher collapse on the horizon for russia
( regardless if they win against Ukraine)
ShadowWolf · 31-35, M
@TheDisciplinarian Russia has proven how ineffective it is at fighting. Like you said it will continue to weaken. The US navy far outclasses Russia and China combined. And Japan is our ally with a long history of hating China.
My fear would be not a traditional war… but a nuclear one. That’s one Russia and China could compete in.
whowasthatmaskedman · 70-79, M
No.. America wont go to war at that level for Taiwan. And there is nothing in it for China to invade violently. Taiwan as a symbol to china is a powerful thing.. But strategically as it stands its no threat and would be a liability if invaded. They will only push it when they can be sure of taking over without too much fuss. Unless the need for the symbol domestically outweighs common sense. Which is sort of what happened in the Ukraine..😷
hunkalove · 61-69, M
There is no way China would go to war with us, we are their best customer. And there is no way we could defend Taiwan, China just has to cross a bridge, we have to cross an ocean. There has never been a Communist country. China and the USSR were totalitarian bureaucracies. Just as the U S and A has never been a Democracy.
ShadowWolf · 31-35, M
@hunkalove Well the US was never meant to be a democracy. It was always meant to be a constitutional republic. USSR and China were founded on the premise of Marxist/Communism. So I disagree there. If anything it proved the system fails. And I do agree, there's not much defense we could do for Taiwan short term. It would be more of, a liberation mission.
thats what they said about ukraine.
zero happened.
taiwan is toast.
MasterLee · 56-60, M
No because china owns biden
Well, Mr Biden needs to address the world on the matter and definitely say whether the U.S. will defend Taiwan as he said we are committed to or turn it over to those who walked it back and let them push him to the back burner on this.
I don’t care a fig for Taiwan. China can have them. Best not get involved.
ShadowWolf · 31-35, M
@DazzaTheHutt

From a pure probability standpoint it’s a safe bet, and one that I’d roll the dice on.
@ShadowWolf And yet you keep coming up blank. How perplexing for you.
ShadowWolf · 31-35, M
@DazzaTheHutt How is providing a map of NATO countries and saying probability is high you are a member coming up blank? Im just saying that I’d be willing to place a bet.
Elessar · 26-30, M
I'm not sure it would escalate to WW3, I'm pretty certain it would make the current recession / supply crisis look like a joke in comparison to the one that will follow
ShadowWolf · 31-35, M
@Elessar It could kickstart the US economy in full swing like it did for us in WW2. No fighting. Just selling goods to Europe. But I think in this case selling war materials and goods to Taiwan would be a declaration of war to China. Considering the circumstances.
Elessar · 26-30, M
@ShadowWolf Early-1900s U.S. wasn't critically dependent on Germany for its economy, 2022 west is critically dependent on both China and Taiwan. It'll be rough, very very rough, before it'll get better (if ever)
ShadowWolf · 31-35, M
@Elessar That's true. Great point.
