China Invasion of Taiwan (CCP vs Republic of China), will it start World War 3?

Taiwan logistically is an independent state of the original Republic of China, that was founded after the fall of the Qing Dynasty. Communists seized mainland China following the first and second Sino-Japanese wars which weakened the Qing Dynasty (First), and ROC (Second). The fall of the Qing Dynasty happened in 1912, between the two Sino wars.
Xi's ultimate goal is to restore China to it's borders of the height of the Qing Dynasty, which included Taiwan.
Taiwan enjoys traditional Chinese culture blended with modern infrastructure and conveniences.
The "One China Policy" was an effort to satisfy the CCP, while still allowing Taiwan to exist in some autonomy.
Per usual, nothing is ever good enough for communists, and they always want more.
If China were to invade Taiwan to annex it, would we expect WW3 to break out?

I don’t care a fig for Taiwan. China can have them. Best not get involved.

@DazzaTheHutt While it's not a good idea logistically to get involved, we lose a major ally and a safe haven for manufacturing that doesn't require joint ventures with the CCP. Also many huge computer component manufacturers are based in taiwan. It could cause a chip shortage/quality issues and many other domino effects if Taiwan is lost. They also lose their freedom. We defend them, we are essentially declaring war. It's a catch 22.
@ShadowWolf It’s temporary, once the Chinese take it over they’ll want to sell chips as much as the Taiwanese did.

And I’m in Europe so frankly I don’t notice Taiwan as an ally. They’ve done nothing to impact this hemisphere, ever.

@DazzaTheHutt At reduced quality and possibly with built in spying mechanisms? No thanks.

Fair, but I’m in the USA and Taiwan has been a partner and ally for us just as much as South Korea has in the area. It would affect us much more than Europe.
@ShadowWolf Then off you trot.
ShadowWolf · 31-35, M
@DazzaTheHutt You say that now. But you are obligated through NATO to join us should we go to war.
@ShadowWolf I didn’t say I was a member NATO.

In any case don’t be ridiculous. Taiwan is not a member of NATO and therefore the treaty requires no action from any member of NATO. Just like the Ukraine.

If you’re going to quote treaties try reading then first.

@DazzaTheHutt Hey now, calm down. I never said Taiwan was a member. I said that if we as the US got attacked by China due to our defense of Taiwan, Europe is obligated to come to war.
I can safely assume you are a citizen of a NATO country. You are either British or German.
@ShadowWolf Europe is not obligated to go to war when the US does.

See the Vietnam war as an example.

As as for your guesses as to my nationality, two of your three guesses are incorrect.
ShadowWolf · 31-35, M
@DazzaTheHutt If we are attacked, yes you are. China decides to attack us, then you absolutely need to comply with NATO. Vietnam we weren’t attacked, we were on offense. So no NATO compliance was needed from Europe.

Ah I get another guess? You said three I guessed two. For the fun of it, I will take my third guess. Polish.
@ShadowWolf I’m not a Pole.

Yes if you are attacked the member states are. But if you instigate a war in Asia and get beaten off, like you were in Vietnam, the NATO members are not obliged to jump in with you.
ShadowWolf · 31-35, M
@DazzaTheHutt It appears I’ve exhausted my guesses. Touché

Agreed. That’s correct according to the treaty text.
The majority of Europe are member states. So it’s safe to say you are a national of one of those member states. Unless you are Belarusian. Since now even the formerly neutral Scandinavian nations have joined NATO after Erdogan allowed it.
@ShadowWolf It isn’t safe at all. There are lists available to you of the nations who are and aren’t members. I’ll leave you to muddle through.
ShadowWolf · 31-35, M
@DazzaTheHutt

From a pure probability standpoint it’s a safe bet, and one that I’d roll the dice on.
@ShadowWolf And yet you keep coming up blank. How perplexing for you.
ShadowWolf · 31-35, M
@DazzaTheHutt How is providing a map of NATO countries and saying probability is high you are a member coming up blank? Im just saying that I’d be willing to place a bet.
