What do you think about art ?

Do you think art can improve the world, and change the world for the better ?

Or do you think that's another unnecessary pursue that only leads to distraction from the truth ? Another point of reference between you and I, replacing direct connection.

That's an issue that I am battling in my head for as long as I remember myself creating art. And what I do about it, and my type of solution around that so far, is taking long breaks from it and from what I think of as unnecessary creating. (...)
I think it is important ,i dislike people that try to gatekeep it or undermine its value. Everyone should have access to it and should be capable of creating it ,or is capable of doing so

@PepsiColaP are you saying all museums should be open to the public and free, and there should be no private ownership of art? that is pretty far out, but, you are entitled to your opinion.
@samueltyler2 they are in scotland
samueltyler2 · 80-89, M
@PepsiColaP so sorry, you lost me, what is in Scotland?
I would say art and literature are some of the most important human endeavors. Every bit as important as the sciences. There are pieces of art and literature without which we would be impoverished. In some cases we would have not been able to understand or face our historical (even personal) experiences without them.

There is a lot of bad art, and I would say that is important too. One of the horrible things we’ve done to ourselves is make art the endeavor of a rare elite. The problem is that artistic creativity is a basic human faculty. I think it’s tragic we downplay that.

If you want to create art, that is who you are. In this time and place we frame everything in the context of vocation. Whether one will make a living as an artist is a moot point. It’s what one does. We would never ask the same question of a person who did gaming all the time. Spent all their time energy money on that.

More people should create and write.

Define "art" lol

If you are referring to illustrative art, then I am horrible at that. I like looking at art that is pretty and beautiful but I've always preferred music, books, and adaptions that have come to life (films, etc.) I like things to speak and move, and to be continuous.

I really need new sources of information, all the time.

That's why I think there is no greater art than music. Paintings, drawings, or whatever you want to call an illustrative piece can be limited...music is a truly transcending experience and is limitless.

On the other hand, it is nice to see something that has captured moments that will forever remain. I just wish I knew what else the person or people in or creating the art were doing at the time.

I like Monet...

This is a nice painting:

@SW-User The impressionists who met regularly, including Manet, Monet, etc., were marvels at creating meaningful art. I am a bit of an amateur artist, having drawn, painted, photographed and sculpted almost my entire life, I am also an amateur musician, play guitar, piano, and trombone, currently playing in 3 local bands. these activities keep me interested in the arts, and my brain working!
WhateverWorks · 36-40
I think.. it depends on how they go about it. Do they use a lot of the proceeds towards a specific cause? Do they actively work on using the art/making of the art to bring in a crowd that will draw attention to a cause? Do they bring meaningful, relevant, enriching art to non-upper class environments/community spaces that would encourage togetherness?

However, if they aren’t doing those things with their art then… they’re not an ‘ activist’. They make art for themselves that they show others. I don’t think there’s anything wrong with making art that’s just self reflection and/or the self contemplating whatever issue then displaying the final product. Self expression is therapeutic and can evoke contemplation/emotion from the audience, but I also think it’s important artists not BS themselves about the impact of their efforts.

@WhateverWorks I believe in activism yet at the same time, I believe what makes art truly limitless is the value that it has by itself, detached from any kind of usage... That it potentially can be useful, but that it needs to remain free from the responsibility of it.
WhateverWorks · 36-40
I think that’s totally fine. I don’t think art has to be anything, only that too many artists bs about ‘what their art is’ out of self-importance @being
FloorGenAdm · 51-55, M
Can't figure out why some of it goes for 50 bucks and some of it goes for 50 thousand dollars. 🖼️
being · 36-40, F
@FloorGenAdm because it's a game play, theoretical merchant ? Just thoughts around it
allows us to make physical representations of the intangible, while also a reflection of existence. brings people together across political and material lines, creates a sense of awe & wonder & appreciation of the alone-ness & sense of vastness we all silently acknowledge inside. and sometimes lets us delve into fantasy.
being · 36-40, F
@lovelywarpedlemon a bridge towards manifesting the intangible, or, a bridge between the world of Formation and the world of Ideas. I wonder what Plato would have to say upon it. He gave up art, explaining that it was an imitation of an imitation.
He considered whatever exists, take a table for example, to be an imitation of the idea of the table, existing in an aetheric sphere which he called the world of Ideas. So he considered the carpenter to be the imitator of the idea of the table, and the artist painting a table to be the imitator of the imitator..
@being technology is helping us blur those lines.
being · 36-40, F
@lovelywarpedlemon as if technology forces art to go beyond
Well there are alot of different arts and I think they absolutely can change and impact the world around us.
Art keeps the delicate side of each human alive, away from mundane.

Each being should indulge in at least one, whenever time allows or may be take out time for the same.
samueltyler2 · 80-89, M
@sspec i will only add that art is not just visual, it can be auditory as well, as in music.
MarkPaul · 26-30, M
I don't know for certain if it can change the world, but it can be life-changing in both negative and positive ways. Some art literally takes my breath away and inspires me.

There’s beauty mostly in what is of no use. All useful things are ugly.
being · 36-40, F
@eMortal bees food is pretty 😊
samueltyler2 · 80-89, M
I tried to PM you to tell you that I posted some of the sketches from my recent open studio.
Pfuzylogic · M
Art provokes and touches us emotionally. Both are very necessary.

We are humans, not machines.

If you love art, and it makes you happy, do it.

If you can make it more meaningful to the world, make it your work.

If you can make it bring a positive change, make it your passion.

All the Best !!
I love art. It's always been my thing
basilfawlty89 · 31-35, M
Society devoid of art, is devoid of culture and its soul.
being · 36-40, F
@basilfawlty89 that's an important point, thank you basil for that.
Yet it's valid only if you think that the way we have decided that the world should go around, is the right way.
MartinTheFirst · 26-30, M
Anything can change the world, and it does, in more or less noticeable ways.
MartinTheFirst · 26-30, M
@being and youre a loving grandma :=)
being · 36-40, F
@MartinTheFirst I'm your big sister silly
MartinTheFirst · 26-30, M
@being oh I see!
Fukfacewillie · 56-60, M
Modern art seems silly to me.
Fukfacewillie · 56-60, M
@being That seems more like a fame whore than an artist. To me.
being · 36-40, F
@Fukfacewillie to gain enough power to be seen and to make your voice count isn't something I would be fast to judge..
Fukfacewillie · 56-60, M
@being Fair enough. I’ve thought about it for many years actually because I was always ambivalent about Warhol. I simply don’t consider what he did admirable. So it goes…
DDonde · 31-35, M
I think it's a human thing, part of the human experience. It's something that we, as animals, do. Art is always worth doing because it enriches our lives. It is not in competition with truth or communication.
samueltyler2 · 80-89, M
@DDonde great point. we went into a cave in Spain in which there were wall paintings 40K years old! humans needed to paint probably even further back than that.
Lilnonames · F
I've never met Art but I'm sure he can
Lilnonames · F
