What do you think about art ?

Do you think art can improve the world, and change the world for the better ?

I would say art and literature are some of the most important human endeavors. Every bit as important as the sciences. There are pieces of art and literature without which we would be impoverished. In some cases we would have not been able to understand or face our historical (even personal) experiences without them.

There is a lot of bad art, and I would say that is important too. One of the horrible things we’ve done to ourselves is make art the endeavor of a rare elite. The problem is that artistic creativity is a basic human faculty. I think it’s tragic we downplay that.

If you want to create art, that is who you are. In this time and place we frame everything in the context of vocation. Whether one will make a living as an artist is a moot point. It’s what one does. We would never ask the same question of a person who did gaming all the time. Spent all their time energy money on that.

More people should create and write.
