What do you think about art ?

Do you think art can improve the world, and change the world for the better ?

Or do you think that's another unnecessary pursue that only leads to distraction from the truth ? Another point of reference between you and I, replacing direct connection.

I think.. it depends on how they go about it. Do they use a lot of the proceeds towards a specific cause? Do they actively work on using the art/making of the art to bring in a crowd that will draw attention to a cause? Do they bring meaningful, relevant, enriching art to non-upper class environments/community spaces that would encourage togetherness?

However, if they aren’t doing those things with their art then… they’re not an ‘ activist’. They make art for themselves that they show others. I don’t think there’s anything wrong with making art that’s just self reflection and/or the self contemplating whatever issue then displaying the final product. Self expression is therapeutic and can evoke contemplation/emotion from the audience, but I also think it’s important artists not BS themselves about the impact of their efforts.

@WhateverWorks I believe in activism yet at the same time, I believe what makes art truly limitless is the value that it has by itself, detached from any kind of usage... That it potentially can be useful, but that it needs to remain free from the responsibility of it.

I think that’s totally fine. I don’t think art has to be anything, only that too many artists bs about ‘what their art is’ out of self-importance @being
