I thought adding bioluminescent genes and attaching them to genes that they intend to transplant was a way to see if they were successful. I'm not sure if I'm correct, or understand the science though.

Not really pointless if it's DNA research. If they can change the DNA of another species, that leads to changing the DNA of Human Beings.
