@Longpatrol Yeah. Mosquitoes are killers. There's actually a pretty solid argument to be made for their eradication. Don't think that can be said for any other species. Their role in the food chain, and as a pollinator, isn't so dramatic that it would cause a huge ripple effect. They're experimenting in California now, through a really interesting process, with the eradication of a species of mosquito that has the potential to pass on disease. If it works as intended it could be a game changer in a lot of parts of the world.
@Ynotisay It's probably reasonable to eradicate certain species of mosquito, I'm not so sure that eradicating all of them would necessarily be a good idea; it would leave a gap in the market so to speak that would be filled by something else.
@ninalanyon You're right. It needs to be really specific. The upside is that not all species of mosquitoes carry disease. It's actually a pretty small percentage. Eliminating them because they're a nuisance doesn't carry much weight for me. Eradicating the potential for disease does make some sense though if the impact is minimal.
Doesn't surprise me in the least. And it's a geographic stat. It's only something like five or ten people in the U.S. who are killed by snakebites each year. What's interesting to me is that sharks and bears are the animals so many fear but they very, very rarely kill.
@Rhode57 I don't know about deserving to be wiped out, but I agree with you that humans are the Earth's worst enemy.
Humans could be of as much benefit to the Earth as they are a detriment, if their attentions could be turned from power and control, to operating in the best interest of the planet and all her complement; social, environmental, economical, political...
But, in a monetary-based economy, there's no room for ethics, and a LOT of room for greed, and for criminal psychopaths to continue taking from the poor and giving to the rich. AND, to continue with their insidious mass-eugenics agenda, which unfortunately, most humans are continuing to enable.
@PhoenixPhail Sadly we have already done irraversible damage to our planet and wiped out so many species we can never bring back that I honestly think its to late . When they noticed 10 + years ago that we were doing irraversable damage was time for drastic measures its been to slow and far to late .
Well, the solution is obvious. Coat everybody in mosquito repellent around the world. If it kills them, then we've eliminated the second most dangerous animal on earth.
