Do cats grow out of chewing on things? [I Have Cats]

My cats are about 7 months old and they are constantly chewing on ethernet cables, vinyl flooring, cardboard etc. Are they teething? Are they going to get tired of it?

Never had the problem. Not even with this little one who is now gone yet who I found as a tiny little kitten with eyes barely open!

@Poppies I miss her, even if she wasn't a lovey-dovey cat like my current one.

@DeWayfarer my tuxedo cat is very lovey Dovey and the gray-and-white I found outside remains very standoffish

@Poppies this one demands it! Jumps right on you multiple times a day! 😆

Mine have mostly been scratchers, which I can control by clipping their nails.

@Harmonium1923 they are both overdue for that, too! Up until now it has been mainly the son-in-law or the vet doing the clipping, but the son-in-law feels bad that they associate his visits with nail-trimming. And with the virus he seldom visits anyway. I can sort of trim one of the cats. The other is more difficult and I think I may buy an unlimited plan from a pet store for her.

@Poppies Mine got used to it pretty quick. I sort of kneel over them, pet them a while to calm them down, get them used to holding their paws, and then do it pretty quickly.

Mine is 10 years old and still chews on the occasional cable or on me, it's their nature to chew, they are predators, like it or not.

One of my cats did that while he was a kitten. I think he broke like 30 chargers. He did eventually grow out of it.

Hard to say. Out of all the cats I've cared for temporarily or shared my home with permanently, only one of them chewed on 'inappropriate' stuff much. She had chewed on the corners of a desk, before I realized she was doing it. A lovely wooden desk that had belonged to my mom. I put tin foil on the corners for awhile, and she hasn't done it since.
Those spray products to deter cats and dogs from chewing on something specific, sometimes help.

Grab a couple of those little spray bottles at the dollar store. About the third time they get it with the water stream, they figure out they're in an area you don't want them.

A squirt gun does the same thing, but cheap ones tend to quit squirting well fairly soon.

My current cat destroyed two sets of dining room chairs. Overnight, she would stand on the dining table and chew the seat back. I think it was something to do with the fact they were vinyl - either the feeling or the noise of her canines popping through.
I now have wooden backed chairs so problem solved.
However, she still loves my vinyl slippers if I leave them lying around - as for Crocs, those expanded foam type shoes, she goes into ecstasy if she finds one of those, she doesn't chew bits off but just punctures it all over with her canines.
She's 6 years old now, so no. They don't always tire of it. In her case it's a kind if fetish!

I had 4 cats and just lost the last one in jan 2019. None were chewers. Maybe it's the luck of the draw. I really don't know. Neither tore up anything. They liked to scratch but I was fortunate they used all of their cat trees for that. I hope your's grow out of it. Maybe try directing their attention each time to you or something specific that's okay and safe. Have patience and good luck. 🙏🐈🤞🏻

Not a common problem to the best of my knowledge.

Depends ... give them stuff they are allowed to chew on and discipline then for chewing on the wrong items
