Food Shortages in our future? Texas is wrecked.

Anyone know how much of the national food supply will be affected?

In Texas, thousands and thousands of gallons of milk had to be dumped. Baby chicks are freezing to death. Eggs are freezing and have to be thrown away. Adult chickens are freezing to death.

The entire orange crop in southern Texas is destroyed.

The entire grapefruit crop in southern Texas is ruined and can only be used for juice.

Baby calves will freeze to death or their mother's die of dehydration as soon as they are born. The water for the mothers is frozen and not available. There will be a beef shortage next year in Texas.

What grocery chains nationwide are depending on these supplies?

@Stereoguy Everyone who still can, should stock up.

I saw an update of the federal response today. Apparently they are moving at the speed of very cold molasses. They are supposed to have FEMA contact emergency state response and they didn't do that. Instead, Biden's idiot stooge contacted the DEMOCRAT elected officials and asked them if they needed anything...and that is why nothing has been done so far.

The good news is that the freeze is warming up, above freezing today, and soon people will be able to get water.

60 people have died.

@Virgo79 Well, he did decide to take a day off...a snow day, I believe he called it...and sat around and did nothing for 24 hours instead of kicking FEMA in the rear or mobilizing the Texas National Guard to distribute MRE's and water.

@Stereoguy Yay for slow Joe!

I think the milk supply is fine, as are our chickens. Texas chickens dont all live South Texas where they are not prepared for the cold. Our chicken house at the farm has 2 solar powered heaters and a good old fashioned light bulb which puts out a lot of heat. The main thing will be that orange and grapefruit juice will be a little more expensive for a couple of years. Next year's crop will be affected as well due to the damage to the trees from this ice storm. But it has happened before and we all recovered

@cherokeepatti My friend refuses to use modern helpful aids like electric blankets. It would spoil his martyrdom, and he might have to pay for the electricity from the electric blanket...🤣. I bought him one, once, and he made me take it back.
cherokeepatti · 61-69, F
@4meAndyou my aunt bought one for my sister’s bed in the 70’s and while she was taking a bath she put the blanket on the bed & plugged it in to warm the bed. When she went to see if it was getting warm there was a huge circle of brown-scorched blanket in the middle. I’ve been wary of them ever since....not to mention the electrical field coming off them that can affect the body. Maybe good to warm the bed but i don’t want one on while I’m sleeping.
4meAndyou · F
@cherokeepatti Could have started a fire! But you are right about the electrical field.

The cattle situation isnt as grim as you say. Busting ice in cattle troughs and ponds to allow them to drink has been goin on forever . My cattle didnt suffer. We did have hay to feed them and to block the wind off them. As far as I know we didnt lose any to the storm. Now predation is another matter.

@TexChik That's good to hear. It's calving season, too, isn't it?
cherokeepatti · 61-69, F
Yes, we can import some of it to make it up but expect higher prices for food, for home utilities such as electricity and natural gas, and for anything that is transported. We’ll have some serious inflation now. Several calves have died here some local ranchers have reported. And sadly a bull froze his balls off and now he’s just a steer. Will probably end up on dinner plates in the near future.
smileylovesgaming · 31-35, F
@cherokeepatti that bull had blue ball's
cherokeepatti · 61-69, F
@4meAndyou What’s really going to be damaged are the citrus trees, the freeze went all the way to the coast. I’ve read people in Houston can grow all sorts of things year round like ginger and their citrus and avocados etc. There are also many veggie farms next to the Mexican side of the border that grow a lot of veggies and fruit. Mexico is going to hurt from this too.
cherokeepatti · 61-69, F
@smileylovesgaming more like ice balls

@soar2newhighs Ted Cruz is apparently being mocked non stop for passing out water.

Gregg Abbott, the Republican governor, is part of a pre-existing state fund for disasters, called Texas Disaster relief. It is this Governor who fund raises and distributes funds to all the various organizations who will help in economic recovery for all Texans. The fund is affiliated with the Texas division of Emergency Management and the One Star Foundation.

@soar2newhighs Oh...I finally figured out your comment
it not that I persist but I have not seen it
. I should have said, " If ONE persists..."...or if a person persists, he or she can find it on Google...but it's difficult...(buried under a biased load of Democrat twaddle).

Someone on Twitter was warning people to stock up in January, saying it was really important. I don’t know what kind of knowledge or forewarning he had but I did what I could.

@Stereoguy quite a bit but fresh veggies is what I always need to get weekly, eggs, bananas and milk. Could take calcium tablets if we don’t have enough milk. I have a lot of pantry foods, frozen meat & stuff & things like beans & rice. We could live on it.

It's a problem already. I will be distributing food at a Food Bank today, and there isn't much food to give out.
4meAndyou · F
@exexec I saw that on the news...saw the truck. Is there any way you can get food from other states? The feds need to step in quickly, IMO, and get you some MRE's.
exexec · 61-69, C
@4meAndyou We usually get food from the big warehouse in Houston, but nothing was available. Plus, the Port of Houston has basically been closed, so no food shipments have been arriving this week. A lot of those items go to other states, so even they will be hurting soon.
4meAndyou · F
@exexec So it WILL be a nationwide problem. I heard that Biden has already declared a state of emergency, so where are the MRE's and water that are supposed to be there for hungry residents without water?
KA9ha · 31-35, M
what you are listing out is a national catastrophe ,,,,fine...
but food will surely be supplied thru other states or imports from different countries .

statement by the LittleChick owner """"
We didn’t plan👀to open today due to power outrage and weather inclement. When we got here to check facility early in the morning, customers kept coming and told us they hadn’t had any power & water for couple of days. It seemed like we could be only restaurant open in this area, so couldn’t turn them back. We began calling our staffs. 🙌🏼
Even though their home didn’t have an electricity & water just like you, some of our crews decided to show up to support our neighborhood. 💪...

@KA9ha I think that when things are the worst, we often see the best in people. It makes every disaster survivable.
KA9ha · 31-35, M
@4meAndyou i understand....

You will survive..humans usually do
