Does the date format MM/DD/YYYY sometimes cause confusion?

Personally I prefer a standard Day/Month/Year format because if its Month/Day/Year then seeing a date like 11/10/2018 would have me thinking:

"Is that 11 October or 10 November?" 🤔
Jackaloftheazuresand · 26-30, M
I prefer it go from smallest to biggest, don't know why a month would come before a day
@iMystery 👍

@iMystery 29 October 2018 should not be strange. Adding the 'OF' is extraneous and he's the one accusing you of adding words. Which is not me arguing either should be understood but it's strange to make the argument he is.

@SW-User 😅 I didn't want to waste time pointing that out, but thanks!
Yes, i use day month year too 😎
Also we need to use 24 hours system, ampm make me confuse. Also use metres instead of feet, kilometres instead of miles, kilograms instead of pounds
Sharky86 · 36-40, M
@YukikoAmagi In Italy we use metric system etc, but tbh the other doesn't bothers me a lot, maybe cause I see it often on the internet etc. I know an inch is 2,54 cm, a feet is about 31 cm etc.

By the way I'm not used to pounds (every time I must check it) and Farenheit instead of Celsius. Those two are annoying LOL.
@Sharky86 and use Italia instead of Italy 😎
Sharky86 · 36-40, M
@YukikoAmagi You're right. I don't know why I use it, cuz for example I prefer to use the actual names of the cities (romanized), but when it comes to countries I go for the English version...
Like about Ital...ia XD I say Milano, Napoli, Firenze, Roma etc, instead of Milan, Naples, Florence, Rome...
AnneHoney · 36-40, F
Month day year is standard and correct
AnneHoney · 36-40, F
Only the USA matters@iMystery
iMystery · M
@AnneHoney Yeah that's what I thought... the infamous American arrogance.
AnneHoney · 36-40, F
No arrogance just facts. Most important country sets the standard. @iMystery
SweetMae · 70-79, F
I always use 29 October 2018. That is the format used most by the military.
iMystery · M
@SweetMae That's what we use in my country too.

@Lakers4523 Seems logical to me
CheshireCatalyst · 36-40, M
My wife's birthday and my birthday are written identically even though they're on different days, because she writes MM/DD/YY and I write mine properly.
iMystery · M
@CheshireCatalyst "Properly" has become debatable as someone pointed out to me that because AMERICA does it MM/DD/YYYY, this is the "proper" way and all other countries should basically fall in line because "only America matters" 🙄
CheshireCatalyst · 36-40, M
@iMystery yeah normally I'm not so militant, but it's so clearly illogical. It would be like writing the first word in a sentence in the middle, or counting 2, 1, 3.
iMystery · M
@CheshireCatalyst 🤣 That's how I view it too!
Dusty101 · F
We have always used day month year!
When I lived in the States they thought my birthday was April 5th not 4th of May!
💭
daveegan111 · 41-45, M
@Dusty101 same which was great as the barmen thought i was 21 before i was lol
Dusty101 · F
@daveegan111 😂
I got a fake drivers licence!
Fooled all the barstaff! 😅😜😏

I don’t understand going from smallest unit to largest unit yet getting to day and month and reversing them. The US celebrates the 4th of July so why not write it that way too?
SW-User
I've been back and forth so much that it doesn't confuse me, I can also do 24-hour time
iMystery · M
@SW-User The other day I experienced confusion over a date which was discussed in an email where the person made it 11/10/2018 and I needed to search for something on that date...

I could not find anything and there were a few email exchanges (almost an argument). When I eventually called the person he said "I am sure the date is the 10th of November".... 🙄

I said his email stated 11th of October... he checked and said "Nope I typed 11/10/2018 which is 10th of November" I then laughed and said "well to me that is 11th of November" 🤣.

Yes he is from another country.
SW-User
@iMystery that's when you have to figure out where they're from lol, at least it wasn't the other way around and it gets missed by a month 😅

Whenever I'm writing to someone whose nationality I don't know, I always write it as "11 Nov 2018" so there's no ambiguity.
iMystery · M
@SW-User Yeah I usually do that too.
CrazyMusicLover · 31-35
Absolutely. I hate it. HATE IT! Who in their right mind could come up with something like this?
iMystery · M
@CrazyMusicLover 👀 some believe that is the way it SHOULD be because that's how THEY do it...
SW-User
I use the day month year thing/it's logical
iMystery · M
@SW-User Again... as your South African? 🤔
SW-User
🤔 The choice still have to be made in settings of tv's and phones/computers and so on
Nineateseven · 26-30, F
I never thought of it that way
iMystery · M
@Nineateseven It always confuses me when I see it... just glad we use DD/MM/YYYY in my country lol
Nineateseven · 26-30, F
I dont think we use that
UndeadPrivateer · 31-35, M
I prefer my dates ciphered as MD:DY:YM. May your 19:28:10 be pleasant.
Depends on the country as to what is considered "standard"
SW-User
I read it in this format DD/MM/YYYY
iMystery · M
@SW-User Me too.. ALWAYS
SW-User
Isn't that standard?

Month/day/year makes more sense to me. We say October 29th or 2018. So it seems more logical to put it in the order it is normally spoken in. Though admittedly I am bias AF.
