Baden Powell had a great idea with the Scouts after the Boer War. It brought boys from the slums into the outdoors and introduced them to camping and wildlife. It spread around the world from the UK - and BP's sister started the Girl Guides for girls with the same ideas.

Now - I hope it can be revived with the original ideas. Politicising such a fantastic movement that was intended to help children is simply wrong.

So... you acknowledge the organization harbored pedophiles for decades, and their victims are finally getting justice. And you're blaming LGBT people for destroying the scouts, not the pedophiles? Not the leadership that looked the other way while these crimes were being committed?

There were nearly 2,000 reported cases of child abuse within the Boy Scouts of America prior to 1994, according to wikipedia. According to lawyers, there are 12,000 cases of abuse since 1994.
The scouts are going bankrupt because they will have to compensate the victims.

A lengthy comment, but I have a lot to say.

My father and brother were both Eagle Scouts. My brother is gay, but he was also born a male, and didn't ever try to pretend he was a female. Neither did he make an issue of his internal leanings. In fact, I believe he hid who he really was until he graduated at the Masters level in college, and he moved far, far away before becoming "himself". You had to know my Catholic parents to understand why.

My father was a Scout Leader for many years, and he earned the Order of the Beaver, for his hard work and community involvement.

I was a Girl Scout, and my entire troop was disbanded and we were drummed out of the Girl Scouts because one of our members had a lawyer father, and he encouraged and helped his daughter to create a petition over an issue of unfairness. Many of us were bullied or threatened into signing. It seems that left leaning lawyers do cause an immense amount of trouble. I was ten years old.

More recently, one of my son's good friends, (when he was 11 or 12), became a pervert and a pedophile at puberty, and this friend's adopted father was very religious, and dragged this kid into scouting, where he said some very sick things to a bunch of 7 year old cub scouts, propositioned them for sex, and he is now in jail. Perverts and pedophiles are predators, and a parent who allows his or her child to go off camping with someone they don't know EXTREMELY well is lazy, uncaring, and neglectful.

My former church had an internal scouting program, and only the boys were able to participate. The girls had their own church programs and learned different skills. They had their own summer camp, and they learned all the things that the women of old used to learn, back about a hundred years ago. This was not a feminist church by any means.

When the Boy Scouts allowed girls to become members, it went against the old customs and teachings of that church, and so the entire church discontinued their involvement with the Boy Scouts. They decided, as a group and as a church, that they could no longer belong to a group that would force them to violate their own teachings about how to raise their children...(which was basically, separation of the sexes).

I am not BLAMING the LGBT's for this destruction of society as we once knew it. It is destructive to old institutions, and we are so fortunate that we can choose to reject the Boy Scouts, or even remake them as we wish, in a country where we are allowed our freedoms. I think they can be continued within churches, for example...as private institutions with private membership.

We really have to remember that gay people were once hated and reviled, called perverts, beaten, and killed. They were kept outside of society, and they were shamed publicly. They were not allowed to have normal lives. My own brother's home was broken into several times, and back in those bad old days, they kept weapons under their mattresses. My brother had to live in hiding...and even tried to marry a female, a long time ago, to camouflage his true nature. Thankfully he chose not to lie and ruin someone else's life. But he was not a pedophile, either...and it is pedophiles who have caused the many lawsuits.

I think we should lay the blame for the lawsuits and the abuse where it belongs...pedophiles are in a class by themselves.

When they said gay men would be the scoutmasters , sounded like a pedophile’s paradise to me ... so we pulled our son out . My hubby and some of our friends were Eagle Scouts ... so they go out in camp outs and teach the boys and guide them
Through achieving their merit badges .

My kids including my daughter joined the boys and had a great time it was a small minority that brought shame to a great movement .

Did you just redefine what LBGT is? I don't know of any definition of it that includes child molesters and child abusers.

I wish we could go back to when a business or organization could say, "No, this is how we run things. You don't like it, you don't have to join." AND being a private and privately funded organization, that was the end of it.

Then the lawyers had to get involved. If it weren't for the lawyers, no one would get sued over refusal to make a cake, they'd just go elsewhere. If it weren't for the lawyers, NO business would be shut down simply so some snarky group could feel powerful.

I was a cub ,and a scout and never heard of any boy ever being molested and had a great time earning our badges making friends etc .I was proud to have been part of such a great institution.Just because a few people brought shame to it ,dont tar them all with the same brush.

But ladies of the night weren’t reaping the same benefits.

When contacted by The Post, females for hire said they’re making much less money than normal.

“Has business been better for me? Honestly, no,” one woman said before abruptly hanging up the phone.

“Business is slower than usual,” said another. “I haven’t been getting any calls.”

Scouting was not ruined by the left.

My husband is a scoutmaster and has been for over 20 years. Most of the adults he works with happen to be staunch, right leaning guys. My husband is a moderate like I am. I happen to attend scouting events that include family and even these staunch conservative guys are not blaming gays or the liberals.

The issue of allowing gay men to join is an old one. Years ago, there was a wonderful, dedicated kid in the troop that decided to come out the closet so to speak. My husband was one of the first to know about it. This kid went on to make Eagle Scout and is still a big part of the troop, volunteering with the rest of the adults. Most people do not know or care that this fine young man is gay. He is just a great guy all around with solid values that any parent would be proud of.

The adult volunteers go through much training and security clearances these days. The clearances are extensive. It amazes me to see how dedicated these adults are.

I do actually agree with you that the boys and girls should be separated and kept that way for many solid reasons. Boys need good solid men as role models, as do girls needing women to be the same. Political affiliation should never be a part of scouting, period.

I asked my husband why scouting is now going by the wayside. He says it’s all the other distractions these kids have these days whether it would be technology and/or after school activities. It’s sad to see.

Somethings really do become obsolete due to the changing times. But blaming gays and liberals really is preposterous since I have seen the success of my husband’s troop. Last year they won a statewide award, something they worked hard to achieve.

When it comes to child abuse you are either part ot the problem or part of the solution, scouting is clearly part of the problem, and not just in America!

I actually been in a Belgian variant of scouts for 15 year and been leader of a group for 5 years. My group was boys only. Just like we had a girls only scouts-group that came together at the same day we did in the same building. Now things are mixed, and even though the old guys complained about this in the beginning... I never hear anny complaint right now. Even tough both gender-groups went on diffrent camping trips, at least once every two month we organised a mixed-group activity with the same age group.

I guess it all depends on what people call "ruined" of course.

With things like scouts and student fraterinities, I don't get why people that are older and aren't actively participating in the activities that are organised are so heavily invested in "tradition" and how things "should be". Because these organisations are actually a way for young adults to learn to organise and do things for themselves. I think we should give them the free choice. So I also don't agree with activists pushing groups to behave a certain way unless it's damadging to them or the community. My scoutsgroup after a while decided freely to join hands with the girlsquad and my fraternity also allows girls right now... as long as they have fun and behave to a certain degree, then who am I to tell them what to do? 🤷‍♂️ I had my time, let them have theirs.

Actually it was abusers and acceptance of the same that is killing the corporate Boy Scouts. Most troops are independent and unfortunately will suffer the consequences regardless. There is no excuse for using a position of authority to abuse a kid. What is also unfortunate is that the media is complicit because there is no differentiation between what happened in some places vs what happens in most. Everyone is guilty and every scout was molested. Those of us that were part of a Boy Scout troop and had good experiences are irrelevant or in denial.

Everything does not have to be inclusive. It's natural and healthy, especially for you men and women, to be separated. It allows them to learn, play, and experience things with those of their own gender without the pressure and distractions that coed activities bring about.

But the problem was mostly older teens tenting with younger boys not supervised which should not have happened!
