LBGT Kills an American Institution

Scouting was not ruined by the left.

My husband is a scoutmaster and has been for over 20 years. Most of the adults he works with happen to be staunch, right leaning guys. My husband is a moderate like I am. I happen to attend scouting events that include family and even these staunch conservative guys are not blaming gays or the liberals.

The issue of allowing gay men to join is an old one. Years ago, there was a wonderful, dedicated kid in the troop that decided to come out the closet so to speak. My husband was one of the first to know about it. This kid went on to make Eagle Scout and is still a big part of the troop, volunteering with the rest of the adults. Most people do not know or care that this fine young man is gay. He is just a great guy all around with solid values that any parent would be proud of.

The adult volunteers go through much training and security clearances these days. The clearances are extensive. It amazes me to see how dedicated these adults are.

I do actually agree with you that the boys and girls should be separated and kept that way for many solid reasons. Boys need good solid men as role models, as do girls needing women to be the same. Political affiliation should never be a part of scouting, period.

I asked my husband why scouting is now going by the wayside. He says it’s all the other distractions these kids have these days whether it would be technology and/or after school activities. It’s sad to see.

Somethings really do become obsolete due to the changing times. But blaming gays and liberals really is preposterous since I have seen the success of my husband’s troop. Last year they won a statewide award, something they worked hard to achieve.
