No way for me. I think it's not healthy either for our physiology and it's unfortunate that people have to do it.

I'm a night owl working the night shift is perfect and time goes by faster

Most of my work life was night work . Cleaning and maintenance work is usually easier at night. I worked for a cleaning company for about 7 years then as a maintenance person on another job for 15 years loved it . Had everyday to do what I wanted to do. Only bad part is you have the days off but everyone else is working , socializing is a little tricky.

I haven't seen the light in 5 years man.

It's a young person's game.
I can do it, I actually prefer a more nocturnal lifestyle. The only down part was that society isn’t built for nocturnal people, so I always felt exhausted because I couldn’t keep a consistent sleep schedule.

@666Maggotz Yes especially 6pm to 6am five days. Six days does take the mick. 4 nights? Hmm... could work? 8 hours in the night seems ok. I had to cover xmas 2 weeks nights for 12 hours. Got home at about 7am, thought I will wake at 12pm, do cycling, go town... lol but obviously that doesn't happen. More like just stay indoors and wait for 5.30pm ready for work.
Some people work better at night and this could be a good shift for them.

I've seen it said somewhere that humans used to have different sleep schedules that supported awakeness at night not just the day. They had two sleep times and awake time in the day and at night. Some think this is why some have sleep problems, because the body naturally desires two split sleep cycles over one long continuous sleep time.

I've been working nights for thirty years. In the beginning it was our strategy for childcare. I don't do workplace politics. Otherwise there would be another work place slaughter.

Not for me, someone's gotta do it. It can be a way for working families to make it work without daycare its really hard on everyone.
Sazzio · 31-35, M
@Starcrossed I mean, night was meant for sleeping? But I guess Human race has to put up with and get used to it.
Starcrossed · 41-45, F
@Sazzio yeah but some jobs like healthcare need to go overnight. There's a certain percentage of the population that gravitates towards nights and it has been an evolutionary advantage for thousands of years to have some people vigilantly watching all night for predators.

Absolute pits.
I did 12 hour nightshifts for 6 months and this is what it led to.
Lucky to survive a crash after falling asleep with cruise control set at 110km, hit tree, BAM.

Not for me. One thing is if I want to work at night by my own decision, another when someone else forces me to.
exexec · 61-69, C
I had to do it early in my career, and my circadian rhythms never adjusted.
Needs stand prime. One can't starve to death if one is not getting daytime job.
I work 7 pm to 7:30 am five days a week and luv it

Messed up my body clock.

Don't quit your day job.
I think it’s sexy
uncalled4 · 56-60, M
My last job was 4 x10 hour days per week. Saved me gas money and tolls and an extra day off per week. I had no coworkers at night, was free to work at my own pace, and it was awesome.
Firecat33 · 61-69, M
@uncalled4 I agree. That's what I do now.
DDonde · 31-35, M
I did it for a year. It was fun for the first month and by the end I was so tired of it
empanadas · 31-35, M
Not preferred but less stress than a day shift
