Do all men ignore the details?

I have a guy working for me to put doors and windows in my house. They are put in ok I suppose but the trim work and caulking is atrocious. He says the curtains should cover most of the trim on the windows. Plus he's cheap and doesn't want to spend money on getting the best products. There's paint on the wall, cement splatter on the doors and one door he reused my old trim.
Every man I've hired has been like this for years. I'm so sick of men. I know there are exceptions but I'm over it.

I only do the best work and use the best materials regardless of what I’m being paid. As a consequence my clients are wealthy and are on a waiting list.
Neoerectus · M
@melissa001 Ah... I feel for you.
melissa001 · 51-55, F
@Neoerectus thanks
Shadyglow · F
@Madmonk you are a good businessperson that's why you have quality clients.Its about character.

I plead guilty. When we built our house, I got my best friend to do the inspections with my wife. He has a degree in building construction and is quite detail oriented. I was working out of town, so it confused our builder. I would do one walk through with my wife. Then my friend would do the next one. He probably wondered if she was servicing both of us.

@exexec Servicing meaning sexually?
exexec · 61-69, C
@zonavar68 Yes, but that was not the case
Shadyglow · F
you can sue him in SC court.

I hired a guy to put up a fence and that didn't work out so he KEPT all the money I paid in advance and now I have to sue in court... $1700 to be exact. He never did one minute or work and he got refunded for the useless fence panels but certain people try things and it happened to both of us...and its not about gender, its about character...

Its that kind of world. I hope you get your money back. Make sure you bring as much documentation as you can. You probably wont need a lawyer. He will have to show how he can pay in order to get out of there...and if he is working you will get paid back. I hope I do too.
melissa001 · 51-55, F
@Shadyglow I'm sorry that happened to you. Thank you for sharing this with me.
Neoerectus · M
Just a bad contractor taking advantage...
@melissa001 Talk to your friend then, find out why her husband is scamming you the way he is. Never do business with friends or family.
melissa001 · 51-55, F
@NativePortlander1970 I finally got to my breaking point yesterday and told him what I thought about his work and if he didn't want to fix it then he should leave. So he apologized and said he'd redo what I wasn't happy with. So hopefully he keeps his word.

Yeah I should have known better to hire family or friends. It won't happen again.
@melissa001 Hopefully he does

I've always been leery of hiring, or buying/selling with, relatives or friends of friends, having seen too many relationships marred or destroyed as a result.
melissa001 · 51-55, F
@Really I'm on disability so I was so thankful when my friend said her husband could do everything cheaper than a professional. Yes I should have known better.
Mordechai · 31-35, M
You'd think you'd wanna get a good reputation for perfect or great work
melissa001 · 51-55, F
@Neoerectus at this point it's been a month and I just want him gone.
Really · 80-89, M
@melissa001

melissa001 · 51-55, F
@Really uh yeah..
pdockal · 56-60, M

pdockal · 56-60, M
@melissa001

melissa001 · 51-55, F
@pdockal too late for that. I'm just glad I know a thing to two about a lot of things and can fix his mistakes.
pdockal · 56-60, M
@melissa001

gotchya
Subsumedpat · 36-40, M
No, some people are cheap, some are lazy, some are proud of their work. Not always easy to tell the difference.
It seems more likely that he can't be bothered either because a) he doesn't want to spend any more time and b) doesn't want to use more resources - he's just thinking of his profit.
melissa001 · 51-55, F
@Zeusdelight I really doubt it, she seams to take back seat to him. He's definitely the man who wears the pants in the family. They are both lived like our parents grew up. Where she's the obedient wife.
And he had the audacity to tell me he used not to be a nice guy till he met Karen 10 years ago. And I know they are devout Christians, and that was another reason why I chose him.
Zeusdelight · 61-69, M
@melissa001 Bad Luck. Sorry it is happening.
melissa001 · 51-55, F
@Zeusdelight thank you.
These people aren't real men.
melissa001 · 51-55, F
@NudasPriest well they definitely aren't competent men.
Moneyonmymind · 31-35, M
Still having trouble from the last post I see
melissa001 · 51-55, F
And so I pointed things out to him that need done right he just ignored me and did what he wanted anyway.
Moneyonmymind · 31-35, M
@melissa001 one of the reasons I’m glad I’m not a homeowner yet
melissa001 · 51-55, F
@Moneyonmymind well my mom and dad left this house to me and I can't bare to sell it.
BigGuy2 · 26-30, M
Don't you pay as the work goes along
melissa001 · 51-55, F
@BigGuy2 I paid half up front, 2 weeks later I paid another 1/4 and when he's done I pay the rest.

This whole time as I point out something, he tells me that just to hold on and when everything is done I'll be happy with it. I'm not, I told him that and he tells me that's the best he can do with an old house. And now I'm basically stuck with whatever he did. And I'd argue with him again, but I'm tired of arguing and just want him out of my house.
You're paying for a service that's supposed to include quality items, his using poor quality is actually stealung from You. Most of my paternal relatives are in housing construction one way or another, from electrician, to drywall, foundation layment, framing, roofing, as well as windows and doors too, several cousins do remodeling/renovations for both upgrade and insurance work. You need to go straight to your local licensing board and put in an official report and complaint, as well as talk to a lawyer to get a discovery to find out exactly how much he's ripping you off, and to sue. His bid should have included listing specific material brands and items, their cost, and his specific labor.
melissa001 · 51-55, F
@NativePortlander1970 my cousin are like your, however when I asked them about his prices they basically said yeah I suppose. I couldn't hire them because they are so busy. Lol

But anyway I've talked to the guy since my rant. He's promised to do things to my satisfaction. And so far he has.

I'm paying cash and he's helping me in the process too. But I assumed since he charged as much as a professional, he'd do a great job. Live and learn.
