https://youtu.be/KqxjRzzGn8k?si=ooZNnTF5YPLdEmeG. I think people have been watching Office Space a little too much.
Cigarguy · M
@Barefooter25 I would really be upset if they did take something out of my office

So this is something I've seen.
I noted it with a colleague and food.
Situation, Monday mornings we get free pastries to accompany our team meeting.
Sometimes there are left overs which we put in the kitchen.
Said colleague took a call whilst he was in the kitchen, got distracted and started fumbling one of the croissants.
Instead of taking it with him or throwing it away he left the partly destroyed croissant on the board.
Having seen this, I got a piece of tissue and picked it off the board and threw it in the bin.

Now whenever there's pastries I make sure I get mine before said colleague has been near them.

Could this be nervous energy? Could this be a power thing? Could this be some kind of absentminded behaviour? Could this person just not even be aware theyre doing it?
Honestly I don't know. But it's not great. It's unfortunately part of working with others .
@Mellowgirl Understandable. I don't do that either, but I am able to notice the patterns (yeah-that's an empath for ya), and thus...that makes it even harder for me to simply "5 D's" anything. Yes, I just dropped a Dodgeball reference.

@Amyrakunejo sorry I reread my comment that came across rather rude.
I think I'm just a bit diagnosed out. If that's the right way to put it.
I get that people have things going on. But in some instances I feel like instead of it helping us to develop a level of compassion and consideration it's caused us to accept behaviours like in this instance isn't particularly pleasant and shouldn't even be deemed acceptable.
But, there is no one fits all solution, is there, @Mellowgirl? Nope, and I am okay with that.
You need a barbed wire electric fence to keep out the wildlife.

My late husband and I frequented a restaurant where we loved the food, but where an annoying manager would come and sit down with us for 15-20 minutes. I whined to my husband that he was so annoying. My husband went to his shop in the basement and made a lovely little easel stand of wrought iron with a fancy sign with the NO symbol and at the bottom, “No managers please. “ and the next time we went there, he pulled the sign out and set it on the table.

We were unbothered with managers after that.
Cigarguy · M
@Mamapolo2016 maybe I should do that lol.
@Cigarguy You could, probably. You could make a sigh that says, this is my stuff. Go touch your own stuff.

But I’d check with the boss first.

We have had a clear/hot desk policy for years so there are rarely moveable objects on our desks to be interfered with.

I can remember in a previous job it was part of my morning routine to lay out five coloured pens in an order that was convenient for me to annotate a document. So of course people loved to mess that order up or put the pens on top of a cupboard where I could not reach them 😞

And managers wonder why people are reluctant to return to the office 🙄
Cigarguy · M
@SunshineGirl I don't have a lot of things on my desk just for that reason but I do have my stress ball my air pods and a couple family pictures.
SunshineGirl · 36-40, F
@Cigarguy It's very impolite to touch personal itens like those.
Cigarguy · M
@SunshineGirl thankfully she works from home most of the time. But it drives me crazy when she comes in my office and just picks up stuff looks at it touches it spins it around in her hands and then moves it somewhere else. I think I really am just going to have to politely that aggressively tell her to stop
Levenrack · 46-50, M
Trying to show off their multitasking skills? But, yeah definitely odd behavior, though I personally think, I've never seen it myself.
Levenrack · 46-50, M
@Cigarguy me either, never had to.
Cigarguy · M
@Levenrack I probably should of hit back but I didn't
Levenrack · 46-50, M
@Cigarguy You want to talk about it. Feel free to message me. Anytime 😊
MethDozer · M
Eh, Ive had this habit in the past. Not justifying it but it's almost an involuntary thing when you have uncontrolled and ADHD and you arent aware and working on controlling it.

It's a weird nerveous habit with adhd that we do until we are made aware of it and choose to worknon controlling it.
Adrift · 61-69, F
No.
If I do notice something interesting, I usually just compliment it or ask about it.
I don't mess with other people’s stuff.
Cigarguy · M
@Adrift I was just checking I have a lot of crazy issues so I wanted to see if it was just me. So I'm glad to know this isn't normal
Adrift · 61-69, F
@Cigarguy Its probably because they were never taught any manners.
Cigarguy · M
@Adrift I'm so glad I'm not alone in feeling that this is weird and people shouldn't do that LOL
Teslin · M
Nope, that is not normal.
Hopefully you ate only dealing with 1 person who does this?
Cigarguy · M
@Teslin yes pretty much and she's not in the office every day
Teslin · M
@Cigarguy You may have to drop a subtle hint !!
JimboSaturn · 56-60, M

Jenny1234 · 56-60, F
Once in a while. Maybe the movement of their hands helps them think.
Cigarguy · M
@Jenny1234 yes but they don't need to touch my stuff
Nitedoc · 51-55, M

@FreeSpirit1 I'll tell my boss you said it was ok if I get in trouble lol
Levenrack · 46-50, M
@Cigarguy Just yell out- "Diplomatic Immunity!" While holding up your driver license upside down. It'll distract them enough to make your escape.
