I'm feeling discouraged

I don't know why it's so hard for me to lose weight. I watch my calories and walk for 20 minutes every day.

This is an example of what I've been eating every day for the past year.

Brunch

Smoothie

1/2 cup fat-free milk
5.3 oz sugar-free yogurt: 90 calories
Handful of spinach
Handful of blueberries
Handful of almonds

Dinner

A protein (usually meat)
Vegetable side
Potato, rice, or pasta side

Evening snack

20 pistachios
Stick of cheese

Ive lost 75 lbs and kept off what I've lost over 6 yrs now .. my guess is you need to walk more and/ or cut more carbs. I eat less than 1/3 the refined carbs I used to and I walk my dogs a total of 40-60 min / day, mow my yard with a push mower (1 hr) and shovel snow if <6" accumulation. I do some weight training here/there and need to make that a consistent thing to break current plateau.

Maybe try two 15-20 min walks, within an hour after eating.

You might need to eat more then add some cardio. Eating too little for too long will trick your body into famine and you'll plateau. Also getting the heart pumping harder will melt off the excess. I know it's frustrating. Sometimes what works for awhile suddenly won't work. I've lost 100lbs twice and now I can't get 10 off 😂
@ScreamingFox Yes, I think I plateaued. I'm actually down 8 lbs from my highest weight, but I seem to be stuck. I can't lose anymore. I just started walking with a 12 lb weighted vest. Maybe that will help.
ScreamingFox · 41-45, F
@MsSwan that could definitely help. Your body will get used to the work so increases and changes will keep it in weight loss mode.

I’m not an expert but maybe add some resistance to that here and there.

It could be as simple as walking with a backpack that has some books in it, or even some light weights around the house.

For clarity, I need to drop weight too, but there are some things I’ve seen for that. Especially if it’s the last few pounds type thing.
@BillyMack I just started using a weighted 12 lb vest when walking, so maybe that will help.

How large are the servings? Nuts are fattening too you know? Just because it’s natural doesn't mean it’s nonfattening

I used to want to be slim but now have just accepted that I'm a larger person .. maybe one can slim down maybe not but I've seen some fat happy people.. personality is more important and yours is fine imo
@YoMomma No, sometimes I have a hard-boiled egg as a snack.

@MsSwan ok i like those too 😅 i love pistachios but they are so expensive .. 😅
Jenny1234 · 56-60, F
@MsSwan if you really want the nuts, have them at 3pm and only have about 10

I lost 30lbs when I joined the gym. I already ate healthy but without results. I got on the treadmill for 30 minutes and the rest of the 3 hours I was there, I did lunges, squats & alot of the stretching equipment. I was amazed !!
Tumbleweed · F
@MsSwan Yes ma'am, 3 hours, 4-5 days a week! I need to get back into that habit...
@Tumbleweed Wow! I'm impressed.

@MsSwan I joined Plantet Fitness - wonderful gym!!!

Like they say, "don't starve yourself."
Most diets like these only work if those are the actual foods you like.
My recommendation is to add breakfast to this diet, limit yourself to a couple or three scrambled eggs, and add veggies for flavor.
I know you want to cut back on intake, but you can't. If you skip breakfast, your body starts storing fat from everything you eat, including healthy smoothies.
Also, don't forget to treat yourself, your body will thank you.
@calicuz Thank you. Yes, I'm starting to realize that I need to change things up.

I don’t think you’re getting enough protein.

My day:
Breakfast :2eggs and Turkey sausage sometimes a veg as well.

Snack:yogurt (Oikos Pro) possibly fruit added

Lunch: some kind of protein (chicken, tuna, even lunch meat). On a wrap or whole grain bread or over spinach/salad

Snack: rice cake with peanutbutter and/or fruit, or handfull of nuts (get outta here you perverts! 🤭)

Dinner: protein with veg and sometimes rice/protein pasta/potato

I walk 30-45min every morning and a few times a week use small dumbbells to do a few exercises through the day. I finally have been seeing changes in my body composition (it’s been a couple months of this), and I still allow myself cheat thing/treat here and there

@WaryWitchWandering also… I’m def not an expert and obviously every body is different. I’m just sharing what is working for me currently

Maybe bring this up with doctor and see what they say?
Drink water alot that helps and cut sugar out as much as possible
Jenny1234 · 56-60, F
Cut out the evening snack and the starch sides. Have protein in am too like eggs
Intermittent fasting
Gap of atleast 15 hours between dinner and next meal
Zero sugar, no pasta

Also... Alter your diet... Don't it the same things for more than 2 months
@Royricky09 I already do intermittent fasting for 15 hours. My snack is before 9pm and I don't eat again until 12pm.

The only thing I eat every day is the smoothie. My dinner and snack is different each time.

Thanks for the advice. 🙂
@MsSwan

Okay great... Here's something quite effective and takes only days to reduce the weight. Tried and tested...

Chew every bite atleast 40-60 times
Brisk walk - I guess you are already doing it
Food tolerance test - important to know if any food item is causing inflammation or takes long time to digest. There are ways you can do the test at home.
Change to easily digestible foods.
Avoid raw foods after 3 PM.
@Royricky09 Thank you
MommaBear · 26-30, F
Do you have pcos by chance? Asking because that can play a huge part in it
@MommaBear Not that I know of. How do you test for that?
MommaBear · 26-30, F
@MsSwan blood work plus an ultrasound around ovulation time
I can lose weight by just fasting or eating less lol
Maybe hormones could be a factor?
@mindstruggle I went to the doctor a couple years ago, and they took blood but didn't find anything.
Jenny1234 · 56-60, F
@MsSwan how much exercise are you getting every day? That too will play a big part
@Jenny1234 I just started walking again. Right now I'm walking 20 minutes a day wearing a 12 lb weighted vest. I plan on going for two 20-minute walks soon.
Jenny1234 · 56-60, F
@MsSwan That’s really good. The exercise combined with the food choices you’re making will help. It rakes time but it works
Lilymoon · F
You can give me some of your weight anytime.
Captainjackass · 31-35, M
Try running instead of jogging, burns more calories.
